It's cool. I haven't taken a test yet, but plan on scheduling one before the month is over. Will keep everyone posted.

You might find that it takes as much time studying for a CLEP/DSST as it would take to actually complete a class through StraighterLine or PennFoster or some other provider. I, and many others, jammed through a number of courses at StraighterLine during the 28 days covered by the $99 fee. I did Accounting I and II, Macro and Microeconomics, and Business Communications. Accounting and BusComm was easy. Macro and Micro were tedious. However, the amount of time it would have taken me to prepare for the Macro, Micro and Account I CLEP/DSSTs would have been more than the time it took to complete the classes.
Likewise, I spent a few weeks trying to prep for the Principles of Finance test but decided I didn't want to risk a failure so I took it at PennFoster and completed it in a couple of evenings.

Thanks Triscuit. I have 2-3 classes I might have to take at SL. Im reading through the instantcert forums now for test takers feedback regarding test. making notes and trying to determine study prep time for them. I will update the classes im considering at SL later as i dont have my laptop with me today =(.

You can't beat CLEP/DSST credit for transfer-ability though.
I would go find your testing center and take one of the easy ones ASAP. There has to be a test out there that you can study for a day and take almost code. Like the CLEP information systems test. This will give you a better understanding of the process.

Listen to Ryoder. He's on the money regarding CLEP/DSST. Listen to Nike. Just do it. Get one done. Then, analyze how things work for you. For some reason known only to God, I keep taking courses with Penn Foster. Part of the reason I'm as old as the hills without a degree is that there is something abour courses - whether seat of the pants or DL - that doesn't mesh with my learning style. If you don't know what works for you, just do SOMETHING. Anything. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Or some such nonsense. Good luck.

I agree with both posts above. For me it was a mix of testing out and taking self-paced classes. Sometimes I didn't have a choice because there was not a test. Other times I opted for the class even when there was a test. You won't know which way to go if you don't start.
