TESC credit banking
#1
Can anyone tell me what exactly this is?
I was told about 3 months ago to pay the $75.00 for the app to get my fema transcripts read and they did. They then ran my other colleges and sent me my eval telling me that I now could register for the remaining two courses i needed. Great !
Now I call to register and they tell me why didnt I just credit bank my fema credits. But I was under the impression that they could not credit bank fema directly if they didnt come from another school first. Yet, the lady told me that I could just send the application and that was that.
What is your take on this and experience? I dont have money to keep going back and forth with them.

Ok, let me redefine my question as i left important info out. And by the way thank you all for who answered because you are right so far.
But back to me ! :>)
I need another 12 credits and then i can process for the NYPD. I have no real reason for the degree right now with TESC because Im currently in an online program for my psychology degree. But im short by 12 credits and want to start processing as im running out of time. That is why im wondering if the credit banking is worth it or if i should try the degree?
I was going to get the degree eventually because it cant hurt to get another degree.
So is credit banking a scam or do they provide you with real credits that can be used at a later time for that degree pursuit?
Its $425.00 they told me which would be cheaper than the $1900 a year tuition i believe TESC costs.
Whats everyone's perspective on this ?

In your situation, and a (very) few others- you may find credit banking to be of value. Here is the scoop-

You pay them $425, and for one year they will "bank" your credits onto one piece of paper. After 1 year, they are gone.
Here is the (typical) problem - that the bank isn't a college transcript in the same way as a TESC transcript is a real transcript- it's a document.
Also, TESC is simply recording the credit- not issuing them. So, here is a common issue- say you earn FEMA credit and CLEP credit, so you bank them at TESC. Then, you decide to apply at your local community college, so you have TESC send your CC the document. Your CC won't accept the document because TESC wasn't the issuer of credit (only the recorder) and you would still need to follow any FEMA transcripting policy (like going through FCC) and still get an official College Board Transcript.

Now, you need the credit for work, but does it have to be on 1 document? Is work going to have a problem if they have to add up the credits from more than one transcript/document? I'm serious- because if so, then maybe the bank will work. But, if your job requires official transcripts from issuing institutions, your money is wasted. ALL COLLEGES want official transcripts, and to apply for ALL COLLEGES a bank transcript will be refused. AND, TESC will request these from you anyway to open the bank- so it's not like you are getting around the transcript request cost! Your employer may not ask for official transcripts- but if they do, you can't use a bank.

My suggestion, is to CLEP your brains out and then simply pay $20 to the College Board, and they will send you an official transcript. (and it's good for 20 years). Same goes for DSST. As to FEMA and ALEKS, you can get them transcripted through ACE - which I believe is also still $20 total. Also, your prior college credit should come on official transcripts.

If this sounds a little foggy, I'm still on my first cup of coffee... but I'm happy to help you sort through this all. Big Grin
