TESC/ Aleks & Intermediate Algebra
#1
The ALEKS Website shows that Intermediate Algebra is ACE approved. Does anyone know if TESC accepts it when the degree requirement says 3 credits of "College Math" are needed? I just enrolled at TESC yesterday, so I don't have an advisor yet to ask.
Thank you!

yes they do accept that course. along with college math, precalculus or trig but not both and only 1 of the 3 statistic courses as they all considered to be the same at tesc (statistic courses only).

Thanks, that's good news. After I took my initial ALEKS assesment for College Algebra and realized I don't know anything, I changed to Intermediate Algebra where I was at least proficient in a few topics ! Not many, like 30 out of over 300 Smile

Hey everyone. I've been checking into doing ALEKS Algebra and ALEKS Intermediate Algebra. One problem. I've already taken CLEP College Mathematics and CLEP Precalculus. I believe these are all lower level courses and I think TESC limits lower level math to around 9 credits. Does anyone know if this is true? Can I add the two ALEKS courses without credit problems?

Thanks

@financial world, that is true you can only have nine credits in the natural science/mathematics section of which would have to be precalculus, statistics, and one other 3 credit course. you can however use the math credits in your general electives area to fill some of the 21 credits needed there. that is however if you have not already filled it with other credits. Tesc has been a pain in the a$$ about it but they previosly gave me creit for Aleks Begining algebra as MAT-102 (Under E Natural Sciences) they game me credit for Aleks Intermediate algebra as Mat-115 (Under D Mathematics) They say on their web catalog that CLEP College math is 6 credits Mat- 102/Mat-103 so Aleks would duplicate part of that. I also had CC Colege algebra Mat-121 and College Trig at CC Mat-129( I think this is now called Precalc) They went under General Education requirements. What degree are you going for Finacial World? I think you might be ok with your plan depending on your degree ( I have a total of 60 math/science credits only 16 of them are upper level) But I did start my Math/Science BA before the rules changed.

I'm doing the ALEKS Busisness Stats right now... driving me crazy, I read (and mostly) understand the explination of something I didn't know, hit practice... AND IT GIVES ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT... grr, let me practice what I learned before you show me something else I don't know...

Yes, just complaining, been at this (quite litterally) all day, only have a confirmed 39% done.

If you guys didn't know, I found that you can login with the "master account" you had to create and force a new assessment. So if you think you're ready to move up, give it a try.

if you are having that much trouble with it, i would try straighterline's statistics. it was pretty easy to understand.

Not really that much trouble, no way in hell I would pay SL's fees when I don't have to pay for any of my classes or CLEP/DSST/etc. I went with ALEKS to do my stats requirement because it was cheap and easier than self-studying it. Will knock out another 9 credits in math while I'm paying my 20 bucks to them (the alegebra ones should be a breeze, I'm doing Calc II right now and having no problems with it).

It's just this one task that pissed me off, had to hit explain 3 times in a row because it decided to give me 3 completely different problems in a row. Everywhere else, if I had to use the explain button, I got the same kind of problem so I could verify I did understand it. 64/137 topics mastered so far, shouldn't take much longer (just started it 2 days ago, but only maybe 30 minutes at a time until today, 12 hours total).
