TECEP CIS-107 Computer Concepts and Applications - TESC
#1
I just took this one and barely passed. Thought it would be the easiest one because I am computer savvy and enjoy reading about computer crap in my free-time. I also bought an old version textbook 800 pgs from amazon discovering computers complete shelly cashman series and quickly read it through. I think that was the difference between passing and failing because I got a 76 and remembered a few things from the text (had to make alot of educated guesses). If you got a good score on the practice exam on the tesc website it will definitely not indicate a good score on the real test - recommend studying all the key terms and hitting the highlighted areas of the test composition. Study more than you think you need on this one.

Thanks for the heads up.

any particular section we should watch out for?
maybe section 5? Computer Security, Safety, Ethics, and Privacy; Information System Development; Programming Languages and Program Development?

Yeah, there was a bunch on encryption and security. I remember reading a chapter on programming languages in the textbook and didn't get a single one on those.

Match up the sections in the practice exam with the book and you should do fine. Also the book is not that bad of a read
CCAF Air & Space Operations Technology- COMPLETE
TESC AS - General Managment-COMPLETE
TESC BSBA Computer Information Systems-COMPLETE
WGU MBA IT -COMPLETE

Sorry to dig this old thread up - but I used it as reference (top Google result) when preparing for this and it had me worried on the difficulty of the TECEP. I just completed it and got a 89% with only studying 2-3 hours total. Honestly the studying perhaps helped me with maybe 5 questions. I don't work with computers but consider myself very computer literate. Approximately half the questions are stupidly easy. Think... "What is the input device that you type on?" easy. 25% are somewhat easy, and 15% were medium difficulty, and approximately 10% I guessed on (nearly all on security, security certifications, and encryption).

Don't waste your time studying for this if you have any computer background whatsoever. It was one of the easier tests I've ever taken.

I took this test last year and I didn't find it easy (I work in tech). Yes there were a few easy questions. Network Technology tecep was definitely tougher, but I would say as long as you study the recommended text, a pass is likely.
