Switching from MBA to MSML program wgu?
#11
Goblue34 Wrote:I completed the WGU MBA and I am starting the MSML Oct 1st. I felt that the MSML was a good tool to become more marketable. Plus, after completing the MBA you only have to take six classes. The MSML is a good second masters but the MBA is the better choice.

Why do you think it will make you more marketable?

I know this is old but I see this still come up often and this thread somehow brought me here from a Google search.

I think we have to first look at what it is. It's a degree in management and leadership, there is a key difference. The second thing is to look at what it's for. The career track a person is on with an MSM is not necessarily the same as what an MBA holder would be on. I view the MSM(L) as a degree for people who want to reach the highest levels of frontline or upper frontline management. I view the MBA as a degree for people aspiring to executive level roles, at least that being the highest ceiling for it anyway.

Both degrees have value for different career paths. The MBA is more well-known but that's also due in large part to the oversaturation of them in the market. So in that direction, one could benefit from having a less-used business Master's degree.

At the end of the day neither degree is a program in rocket science and much of the curriculum in both degrees only applies in theory because some of the issues and systems introduced in these programs are tackled in easier ways in the real world via licensed or proprietary software that either removes research work/time or the need for having a high level of analysis acumen in each area.
