Suggestions for BSBA-HROM courses @ TESC
#1
Hello! I just found this form through a TESC link, and thought this looked like a great place for advice on some questions I've struggled with recently. I need to meet the following course requirements to finish my BSBA-HROM.

Principles of Management (MAN301 -- currently enrolled, taking now)
Principles of Statistics (STA201 -- currently enrolled, taking now)
Microeconomics (ECO112 -- currently enrolled, taking now)
Managerial Communications (MAN373)
Principles of Finance (FIN301)
Intro to Marketing (MAR301)
Business in Society (BUS311)
Business Policy (BUS421)
Human Resource Management (MAN331)
Organizational Behavior (MAN311)
Organizational Theory (PSY360)
Industrial Psychology (PSY363)
(two HR/OM electives)
(one gen ed elective, undecided but like Fiction Writing)
Intro to Operations Management (OPM301; business elective)
Records Management (BUS212; business elective)
Project Management (MAN435; business elective)

I'm thinking about taking the DSST exams to test through Prin. of Finance, Business in Society, Human Resource Management, and Organizational Behavior.

Also, I'm considering Intro to Marketing at LSU Distance Learning (here).

Questions:
  1. For the HR/OM electives, I'd like to take Labor Law and something like Salary & Wage Administration, but TESC does not offer those courses, though they'll accept them from elsewhere towards the degree. I've had a hard time finding either one from a regionally-accredited source. Can someone point me to a good source to search these out? There are other course options, but I'd like to find those if they're out there.

  2. I'd like to find either a testing or learn-at-your-own pace option outside of TESC credit earning (I'm already approaching my 36-credit max plan) for any one of the non-italicized courses above. My goal is to finish by this time next year, and at three courses a semester, a full-time job, and full-time family, I don't think I could handle another paced class option.

Hi and Welcome!

I actually answered a similar question earlier this month. Penn Foster has good HR courses. Take a look at this thread.

Hello bricabrac!

Thank you for the pointer to that other thread. It, along with a few others, helped to answer a lot of questions I had about the best plan for me. Here is what I've come up with to finish out the last 18 courses / 54 credits I need.

TESC Courses to Maximize 36-credit Tuition Plan
Principles of Management (MAN301 -- in progress)
Principles of Statistics (STA201 -- in progress)
Microeconomics (ECO112 -- in progress)
Managerial Communications (MAN373 -- planned)
Principles of Finance (FIN301 -- planned)
Business Policy (BUS421 -- planned)
Organizational Behavior (MAN311 -- planned)
Industrial Psychology (PSY363 -- planned)
Fiction Writing (ENG-231 -- planned)
Intro to Operations Management (OPM301 -- planned)
Records Management (BUS212 -- planned)
Project Management (MAN435 -- planned)

Exams
Intro to Marketing (MAR301 -- CLEP exam scheduled)
Business in Society (BUS311 -- DSST exam planned)
Human Resource Management (MAN331 -- DSST exam planned)
Organizational Theory (PSY360 -- DSST exam planned)

External Courses
Compensation Management (HRM210 Penn Foster)
Employment Law for Business (MG410 Athens State U.)

Since I've used financial aid and enrolled with Comprehensive Tuition, I wanted to maximize the credits I earn from TESC. For the external courses, they are areas of interest for the HR/OM electives. I could have stuck with some of the course offerings from TESC but did not want to, so I'll take those on top of my planned TESC courseload for the Fall semester to get them out of the way. If I had my way, I'd have found two regionally-accredited, self-paced courses to fit those, but after searching for weeks, if they're out there, my search-fu failed me.

Thanks again! It helped to see how others have done it, to know what was possible.

Hi Mrs B,

Great Job!! I also took advantage of the comprehensive tuition program.

Just a quick note, you have two of your courses transposed-
Organizational Theory (PSY360) is a TESC course
Organizational Behavior (PSY361/MAN311) is a DSST exam

Good luck in your program! Please keep us informed on how you are doing. I'm sure it will help others in the future.

Sorry for the thread resurrection! I noticed that I have a Managerial Comm Class; however, I only received 2 CR for it. Does this mean I'd be required to take another M.C Class to fulfill the entire requirement? :leaving: No worries because there's a wealth of information regarding alternatives. I'm just curious!

Hi Orimaru1,

Did you reply to the correct thread? This is about HR/OM degree.

I would call the registrars office/advising about the course details and what you could use (if necessary) to fill the missing credit.

Thanks! Yes, that was a typo when copying from my Excel doc where I sorted everything out.

Unfortunately, the Athens State U. course was not approved due to accreditation, so I'm back on the hunt for that last HR/OM elective. I'm thinking Employee Benefits @ Penn Foster to be done with the whole planning process. It's ACE-evaluated, so hopefully that will work.

I would suggest looking at the Labor Relations ECE exam to see if it is UL credit.
