I need 1 applied profession credit for EC. I know FEMA courses are free but then the cost of tranfering it to a college and then to EC comes out to be same as CLEP or DANTES. Other option anyone can suggest ?

Do you already have the 3 free NFA credits on an ACE transcript ($40 for first and $15 for second)? They can be used/earned 1 credit at a time.

I don't. What are those?

These are NFA - National Fire Academy. Unlike FEMA, some NFA courses are ACE-approved. They are free, but require an ACE transcript.
I took one NFA course to finish my Associate degree at EC this year. It was called Fire Service Supervision Q318. I thought the information was very practical for anybody to use. I put some feedback at the end of this post: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post75628 There are two other ACE-approved NFA courses. One is hydraulics Q137. I have been told that it is 2 hours of math problems. The other is community education Q118. ACE says it takes a few hours longer to complete than the one I took, but I have not been able to verify that. As far as I know, those are the only 3 NFA courses we can use for college credit at EC right now. I hope this helps!

The NFA Community Safety Education course is quite easy. Print the presentations, then take the test.
While you may need to look up the answers to a few of the 25 questions on the test, you should find most of them seem to be common sense. Good luck!

Daft question maybe, but do you already have Information Literacy or has that single credit course resulted in your current non-multiple-of-3 credit total?
If you list what you have, you could probably get some suggestions on which CLEP/DSST/etc are easier to fire through. If you're down to your last credit you probably already have an excellent idea about those One option might be to do one of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL, known as ECDL in Europe) courses. These are 1 credit Applied Professional each up to a total of seven.

yes, this is the last one. From what I read so far, FEMA and NFA courses cost comes out to be same after trasfering to EC.

Using this post: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post73630 1 FEMA thru FCC $75 1.33 FEMA thru CCC $60 1 NFA thru ACE $40 (for first transcript, $15 for any additional transcripts)

NAP Wrote:... The international ICDL/ECDL website is here: European Computer Driving Licence Foundation This links to the website specific for the US here: ICDL US I can only go on the pricing from what I can remember from looking at the ECDL. The programme requires a workbook, which a couple of years ago cost either 40 GBP (~65 USD) or 20 GBP (~32 USD) but I can't remember which. The price of the tests themselves I remember being quoted 20 GBP (~32USD) each from a college. The training/courseware is not a requisite, so a student can just go ahead and sit a test. I think some libraries may have been offering these even cheaper. Training/studying material might well be offered free at libraries, as that's how it's done in the UK but there are commercial courses, too. They were interesting to me as EC apply each of the seven tests as 1 LL applied professional college credit. So seven possible credits for 180 GBP (~290 USD). Their prevalance was an attraction at the time so if you have a CLEP testing centre nearby the cost probably makes a CLEP a better option. The topics are very straight-forward computer applications theory and practice, e.g. using a wordprocessor, spreadsheets or presentation. Here's the wikipedia page: European Computer Driving Licence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For IT professionals, these were probably skipped over as too elementary compared to CCNA, etc. For other students, they might not realise that they are very entry-level tests and dismiss them. Obviously not an option for everyone but it's nice to have options
