TESU Degree: BA in Computer Science
I've been in contact with the academic advisors via email to get approval for classes transferring in from Study.com to TESU. I just wanted to have it in writing before I invested all this time doing class work. For every class I inquired about, I received a bullet point like the one below:
[*] Study.com: Introduction to Programming transfers in as COS-1110, 3 credits (via ACE transcript, if taken prior to 09/30/24) and may be used to fulfill the Section A, Programming requirement
This specific class from study.com "Comp science 109: Introduction to programming" they are saying can only be transferred in if the class was completed before 9/30/24.
I haven't done the class yet, and when I messaged back for them to clarify on this/ to see if there was a way to solve this problem they responded with:
"You must complete the courses by the indicated date to ensure we'll be able to apply credit to your degree program. It'll be fine if the official transcript arrives after the listed date, but the courses must be completed before the ACE expiration date."
And:
"Yes, the date for the Study.com course, Introduction to Programming, is correct. If you didn't complete it by then, TESU won't be able to award credit in transfer."
Has anyone had a similar issue and how have you got around this issue. It's kind of annoying because every other class in the BA Computer Science Area of study was able to be transferred in because the expiration dates or "if taken prior to" dates haven't passed yet. I feel like the academic advisor people are missing something possibly, because I've heard before they can be hard to work with.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You must review the ACE guide to see if the date has been updated. Sometimes, those classes are revised and sunsetted, and at other times, they need to be recertified with ACE
The date on the ACE guide is what will be used by TESU.

When did you send your email? The class was up for renewal at the end of September 2024, and it has since been renewed, with a new certificate period of 10/1/2024 to 9/30/2027. We had not heard of TESU no longer accepting this course, hence my asking when you sent your inquiry and got this response.

Further to that, there are always other options to get these lower level classes. You want to make sure of the dates in ACE to verify that the classes are ACE recommended for credit and hasn't expired yet. Most institutions including TESU will follow through with the recommendations or requirements of any changes needed to keep the class ACE college credit, and thus, institutions probably will give you a favorable evaluation of the class.

Thank you, I had no idea I could see that ACE guide. The Ace guide date has been updated, which that academic advisor did NOT know or say to me even though I asked. She just said it wouldn't work. Thank you!

Yes you are correct about it being updated on ACE. I looked it up on the ACE website which I just learned about. I tried getting that information from the academic advisor at TESU but she literally kept telling me it wasn't updated as of yesterday Thursday March, 13. But I think she's misinformed.

Thank you! I'm glad I learned about the ACE website so I can check.

Sounds like you've gotten it figured out, but I just want to say in case anybody else comes across this thread that I got credit for that course by taking "Intro to Programming in Java" at Sophia. They told me it was good until 8/31/25.
