So I was browsing study.com to take a few credits for WGU. 
Found pricing for 1 year @ 1079.99 

Worth it or not since its 199 for 2 course + 70 for any additional course

It used to be worth it. $1100 at SDC would have been the cheapest way to get a lot of the credits needed for degrees at the Big 3. Today, though, we've got Sophia. $79/mo. for unlimited credits per month.

For WGU, a year's membership makes even less sense. Degrees don't have electives and they are incredibly specific about which courses can be applied to where in which degree plan.

It's worth it if you have 24(or more) classes you want to take with them and want to spread it out over a year. You would want to have a gameplan ahead of time though, and as Rachel83 AZ pointed out if you're going to WGU, they only accept specific courses. Thankfully, WGU has a transfer agreement for Study(.)com here: https://partners.wgu.edu/Pages/Transfer....=Study.com

If you just want a few credits, it'll be more economical to just pay for a month or 2. For example, right before I started at WGU, I signed up to do a month at study, to transfer in 3 classes.

Also: I agree with Rachel that depending on what classes you want to do, sophia is a much cheaper option.

It looks like you're planning to enroll at WGU in August for BSCS? If that's true, it wouldn't make sense to pay for a year since you can't transfer in more credits once you begin at WGU. They only let you take 2 exams a month under the plan or else you have to pay $70 extra to take more.

If you have some UL courses that you can do the papers/assignments, then you can afford to wait around because the exam grade won't matter much.

For people needing transferring into WGU and needing a bunch of study.com credits, or people doing multiple degrees at TESU it's worth it.

You start to break even around the 4 months, a 1-day mark which would be (10 exams)

It's completely worth it if you need 24 courses worth of credit. Sophia is cheaper but Sophia is incredibly limited on what it offers and Study.com has more UL courses and labs that Sophia doesn't offer. Study.com also hits alot more subjects than Sophia does.

Obviously, if you need what Sophia offers, get it there. But Study.com makes sense for alot of people. I'm still using it because I still need credits they offer for degrees I haven't gotten yet. I've gotten everything I need from Sophia but I still probably lack another 40 credits from Study.com to meet my goals.

If you're doing multiple degrees Study.com is your best choice for credits and it's not even close. Since Study.com is usually $200 a month, you'll save money if you need anything above 12 or so courses really. It doesn't have to be the full 24 to make sense. So just look at your situation and see what makes sense for you.

For the Big 3 and any competency based degree provider who will take Study.com courses as UL, this is a good deal, especially if you're into taking multiple degrees at the school - a BSBA & BSIT for example or something like that. Study.com is probably the major source for UL for the Big 3 as the others such as Sophia.org/StraighterLine are all lower level. It's up to you to decide, for WGU maybe best to do the monthly and take the extra exams for $70 each.

If you sign up all full of energy and enthusiasm, complete 3 courses the first month, 2 courses the second and third, and then nothing again until two more in the 12th month, you've paid over a grand for 9 courses. Which isn't terrible, but that's 50% more than you needed to spend for what you got. That's not saving anything.

I think most of us here have some experience with signing up for more coursework than we can actually complete, and we can attest to the early enthusiasm and optimism which peters out, so just be sure that you can maintain a good pace throughout an entire year if you're going to do this.

Personally, I prefer the flexibility of per-course or per-month payments, so that when life gets in the way, I don't have to also deal with the frustration of spending money and getting nothing for it.

Completely agree.  I'd probably end up paying a bit more, but it would be more customized to my life - like, I might take 3 courses in a month, then 2, then take a month off (or even a few weeks off for a vacation or something), then come back to it.  In the meantime, maybe I'd find something else on sale, or an RA course that I needed, and it's nice to be able to put this on pause and then come back when it's convenient.

My education kind of ebbed-and-flowed around other things that were happening in my life - I was not a full time student.

You should evaluate -based on those factors I listed - whether it is worth it for YOU. In YOUR situation.
