Sorry to say Evette, but this would be an "attention to detail" problem. Per Straighterline FAQ, which is very easy to find from their main page:

Quote:What is your refund policy?
Single courses purchased for $399 may receive a 100% refund within 1 week of purchase or before the completion of the first course assessment, whichever comes first.

Students who select the $99/month option may cancel the plan at any time before their next scheduled billing. Re-billings occur every 28 days, on the 28th day. Refunds are not available once the monthly fee has been charged or for the $39 per course fee. Once charged, students are guaranteed access to a course for the next 28 day period.

To terminate your monthly subscription and cancel your recurring billing, you need to log on to your StraighterLine account (login at Customer Account - StraighterLine) and under your "Manage Subscriptions" tab click the Cancel button next to your Status. If you have any problems you must email your Course Advisor before your next re-billing.

I don't think it's fair to slam a company simply because you didn't read the details in advance.

They offer a free three day trial so that you can check it out. Why didn't you play with it that way before purchasing? And their refund policy is available....you should have done better due diligence IMHO.

That said....why not give it a whirl, make lemonade from lemons and all that. What course did you sign up for? You should do a search on IC and see if there are tips to getting through the course you selected that might make it more palatable.

Even if they didn't offer a free trial, I'm not sure how $99 a month plus $39 course fee could possibly be considered a ripoff for all of the learning modules, smartthinking tutors, and activities they give you. SL holds your hand and helps you learn a heck of a lot more than any of the online classes I've ever taken. If a topic is REALLY difficult for you, then an in-person option at a local college is probably the best.

However, if you just don't like it because you don't feel like putting all the hard work to learn or because you thought SL would be easy, then suck it up and just do it. You've already paid for it. About 80% of the topics I had to learn were either difficult or didn't interest me all that much. If you get frustrated and give up easily, my guess is that a bachelors degree is not likely in your future.

Or if you don't like the course you picked (in my case they allowed me to change to another without charging me the additional $39.00). Why not do that? By the way which course did you decide you di not want to take? For me it was economics, but did find with algebra.

Obviously you couldn't be bothered doing this then. What did you expect? A course you didn't think you'd have to put some effort into?
I agree with Shotu...sour grapes!!

Rip off, no freakin way. This is one of the best deals in education. I think Straighterline and their model is the future of higher education in America.
Low cost, instant access, rich multimedia, great text books, at your own pace format.
Seriously, $99 is nothing these days.

I was able to complete 3 courses in 1 month at a cost of just over $200. I then took another 2 courses a few months later at a cost of under $200. Compare that to any other online school and you will agree it is an excellent deal.
