Straighterline partnering with TESC and Excelsior
#11
I took a quick look at the ALEKS and Straighterline web sites, the latter is obviously for college level classes and they have some "Coming Soon" classes I might be interested in, (how soon is soon). Aleks looks more for home schooling and help with classes from other schools, where does it what classes you can take for college credit? If Straighterline gets those other courses up soon I would be happy to use them and transfer the creditd to TESC.

I agree w/you on that. ALEKS is easier in my estimation. If I had algebrator w/Straighterline, maybe that would have been easier. I'm looking from the standpoint that this site is developed for quicker, easier and cheaper in most, not all instances. The problem with both to some educators is that there is no real way to know who is actually doing the course. In my case, I used different resources to achieve desired results. One look at politicians and the financial world shows us ethics is lacking, cheating is rampant. Without having some sort of proctor for any exams would leave me to believe that schools would be reluctant to "partner" with these types of programs. Hey, I've been wrong before.

Yes, you definitely get a letter grade. I did this back in November and by early December had a letter grade of "B" on my FHSU transcript. I then sent that to EC where it is transcripted.

This discussion is great but please don't lose sight of what I am trying to accomplish. In other words, PLEASE email Jenifer Dehart and tell her you want her to have Straighterline partner with Excelsior and TESC. The more interest she gets from real people, the better our chances are of persuading them it's worth their while. This will benefit all current AND future users of this forum, and "Big 3" students everywhere. Thanks everyone.

Is there something I'm missing? Straighterline's courses appear to be crazy expensive compared to a CLEP, and more expensive than community college, or LSU (if you want a letter grade). Plus my company would never reimburse w/o RA, don't know about anyone else's...

You must be missing the Straighterline for $99.

As for getting TESC and Excelsior to accept these classes straight forward, I don't see it happening. If you really want change, have Straighterline get them evaluated by ACE. If ALEKS can do it, so can they. That will be the easiest way for Straighterline to make some real money, and benefit us the most.

I mentioned this to Jenifer back in November. Right now they don't have plans to get ACE evaluated because of the costs involved. However, don't rule out a partnership with the Big 3 just yet. Either way, I did successfully get my course put on my FHSU transcript and then to EC. It was a simple process and took a total of just two weeks and $0.00 to make happen.

I emailed her as well that I would be possibly taking some of their courses and mentioned to her that Excelsior did something similar to Gaming Institute.

Hey Fort Hays State Univ. (FHSU) is now accepting both of Straighterline's Economics courses. So it's possible to take micro and macro from them now, transfer to FHSU and probably then EC or TESC. We'll see. Either way it's good news for us business majors. Better to have more options than less.
