Straighterline Proctor Process
#11
iwant2stalku Wrote:I am still waiting to hear back from Straighterline. This morning I was scheduled to take the Technical Writing TECEP and ProctorU told me that I could not use a dictionary, even though it is listed in the test description Thomas Edison State College: All TECEPÂ Tests Even after showing the proctor the link, they maintained that the only reference materials allowed were scratch paper and a calculator. Really??? A calculator for a WRITING exam??? Gee thanks, ProctorU!

TECEP exams are not taken with Straighterline, they ae Thomas Edison State College Exams. See the following link for instructions. https://www.proctoru.com/portal/tesc/gettingstarted

Yes, what I was saying is that I had an issue with a Straighterline exam Saturday AND a TECEP exam today. In both cases, ProctorU was used. I had previously registered for the TECEP through TESC and scheduled the exam with ProctorU.

Just a final update on this..I sent an email to TESC about the dictionary issue and they resolved it within a few hours. I was able to take the exam last night (WITH the availability of a dictionary, even though I didn't use it) and they updated ProctorU with the correct information for that exam.

As for Straighterline, they said that the notes must be HAND WRITTEN and that is the guideline they provide to ProctorU. I was able to get an exception since I already typed the notes and because the guidelines in the course do not specify that notes must be hand-written (just "self prepared"). They will be updating guidelines for ALL Straighterline courses to specify that the final exam notes cannot be typed.

That's a bummer, but good to know the official word.

I would just use a font that looks like handwriting! There are tons of them. Geez, this sounds like a pain, I'm not looking forward to starting my TECEP exams...

I'm sure they are prepared to make exceptions for people with disabilities?

Thread is a bit old but I just wanted to update and say that typed notes are now allowed for most/all SL courses, and it explicitly says this in their proctoring guidelines here:

Online Exam Proctoring Details by Course | StraighterLine

All of the courses where notes are allowed state "...self-prepared notes (typed or hand-written)..."

Was looking into typed notes being allowed or not myself, as I'm taking my COM101 final on saturday and would rather not drill/cram all the worthless memorization like the 5 steps on the breakup staircase and whatnot.
