Why's that? Did they make the non-proctored exams closed-book as well? If not, SL is still a smart choice, as you can bomb the final and still pass the course if you have a good grade before taking the final.

I thought I'd share my input on SL's Macroeconomics and Microeconomics as I have just taken/am taking these courses.

Yes, the final exam is proctored, but that shouldn't let you stop it from taking this course.

The final exam of Macroeconomics will only count for 120 of 1000 available points. After each chapter you have a quiz counted towards your total. You have about 20 of these quizzes and one midterm. I read a chapter in the ebook and then took the quiz, using the ebook on this quiz. After all the chapters, I I already earned 84%, way more than enough to pass the course without having done the final exam. I didn't study for the exam, because I knew I wouldn't be able to do it without the ebook. I took the final proctored exam, relying on what I could remember from all the reading. For the answer I didn't know, I answered C (I read somewhere that C is chosen most as a correct answer with a multiple choice exam). I got about 50% on my final exam and passed the course with 90%.

Microeconomics is more or less the same with 140 point counting of the final proctored exam. I'll be taken this on Wednesday.

I took the courses this way, because I hate counting on one test for your entire final grade. Yes, you have to take a lot of tests, but if you don't want the rely on just one test, I think it's the better alternative!

Good luck to all the ones that need to take Macro/Microeconomics!

Penn Foster is also an option for Macro (Economics I). Their Microeconomics (Economics II) expired with ACE 9/30/2015.

The final exam will be irrelevant for most, given the number of quizzes and the weight of the final to the overall course. IMHO, this isn't a game changer for this course. If you preferred SL before, you will likely still prefer it. Having taken the course, I found it had too many quizzes for my taste, but it certainly wasn't a burden compared to a regular class. If the one shot attempt at tests scares you, this is still probably the best route. You can fail the final and still pass pretty easily.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.

Due to the monthly fee for SL I prefer to only do courses through them that can be completed quickly. Both economics courses are very cumbersome and time consuming (20+ quizzes) The closed book exam is an afterthought as others have said before: Many students already have achieved the minimum 70% and can just pick C.
