Straighterline Finals (need help understanding)

Is this true, how so, when you have to have the proctor open up the final, isn't SL suspicious of that, and may not give you credit?

ummm when was that thread? That seems like it's old info, like back before they initiated the proctor info, but I could be wrong.

You would need to read through the syllabus for your particular class to see what it says about your final. When you look at Straighterline, it says "Do I have to complete all of the tests and assignments? A: You must complete all graded assignments, tests, and lab assignments before you can request that a transcript be sent on your behalf. This holds true even if you'd otherwise achieve a 70% or higher on the course."

My question is why wouldn't you want to at least try?

I'm scheduled for a proctored SL exam this weekend. For my course (Organizational Management), there were 4 tests, 1 midterm and the final. Tests are 125 points each and the midterm and final are 250 each, but unless you score 95-100% on each assignment (big surprise-I didn't), you NEED at least some points from the final to be over 70%. It's my first course, so I'm no expert. I guess it really depends on the course you take.

Some of the courses have different requirements. On the philosophy course you can only achieve up to 50% (500 points) in the tests, and then the final is worth 50% (500 points)

I am personally trying to get the best overall score I can. I feel it is good practice to study properly, learn the material, and try to achieve a good score on the final. I am paying to take a course may as well learn something

I suppose I could have elaborated and said as long as you're already at 70% of the total class completion this would be valid. Obviously I don't recommend it, but if you've reached 70% already it makes the final much less stressful to know that it's a "P" either way.

I am taking Accounting II and doing extremely well. It seems that SL's Accounting II contains a LOT of stuff you learn in DSST Principles Of Finance and DSST Principles Of Financial Accounting. I've taken both of those exams and got really high scores on both. That in combination with using the search function on the ebook has put me in a position where I really won't need any points on the final.

Considering Excelsior only grants "P" for passing regardless of grade, I'd much rather forgo cramming for the SL final and move on to studying for my next CLEP.

I want to clarify my grade on the final can be any grade as long as I have achieved 70% mastery in the total course so far?

Or here's a different wording question.

Has anyone gotten a low score on the proctored final but still passed using the overall mastery of 70%?

It is usually an overall mastery of 70%, yes you still need to take the proctored final exam, but getting a low score won't affect you passing.

You can see your course grade on the left under 'course completion status' something like this:

Status: Complete

Your course completion is based on
1. completing all required assignments and
2. achieving a 70% in the course:

Required criteria Status

Course grade 94.5% (A grade of 70% is required)

Activity completion 6 of 6

Once you have over 70% (overall course grade) and all the activities are complete the 'Status:' changes from 'In Progress' to 'Complete'
If you have say 60% on your course grade before the final exam, then you only need to achieve the extra 10% to pass the course.


I am not sure it is the same for every course, I thought I read somewhere that Intro to Psych required a 70% on the final exam to pass, hopefully someone can confirm that.

I just got this and I was to excited, so I had to update. Y'all remembered the issue I had with Straighterline for my Psychology class that I had to have 70% on both the "final" and the class 5 months ago. (LINK Below). Anyway, just received this email below. I didn't retake the exam, I went ahead and put in my transcript and it was processed, so glad I didn't wait on them.

I am emailing to notify of a change to our PSY101 passing criteria. After discussing with the American Council on Education who reviewed our PSY101 course we have been able to remove the requirement from the course where you must achieve greater than 70% on the course and the final exam.

A passing score for PSY101 is now simply a score greater than or equal to 70%. Based on this change and our records within the course you are now eligible to request a transcript for PSY101.
