Sophia's English Comp is no longer a nightmare
#1
As title says.
I'm currently taking English Composition I at Sophia. Now, the information on this forum and the wiki makes it very clear that these (I & II) are by far the longest courses offered due to the long time needed for grading.

My experience however has been completely different, and from what I'm reading on the recent reviews, I don't think this is all luck on my part.
I've sent 3 touchstones in the last 3 days and they have all been graded in a matter of HOURS. I think they've really listened to the feedback and it may be time to update the info and recommendations on the wiki.
I'm glad I took it instead of UMPI since I was afraid that, since I'm not a native speaker, the grade would factor negatively in my GPA.

Yes, it's still kinda lengthy, but honestly so far I've completed each milestone in like 10 minutes tops. Most of the stuff you can guess intuitively and get right.

So yea, just putting the information out there.

I would honestly suggest non-native speakers DO take English Comp I & II at UMPI and NOT from anywhere else. UMPI is a single paper per class. It also sets up expectations in regards to the later papers that you'll have to write for other classes. In the long run, your GPA could wind up negatively impacted by not taking the classes.

UMPI is very writing-heavy. If you're not confident writing academic papers in English, UMPI may not be the school for you.

Eng Comp on Sophia is faaaaar more papers than UMPI. It's 1 paper per class at UMPI. UMPI is very heavy on writing. Some degrees there are no exams and it's all papers.

I know that Sophia made improvements to their grading system to get their graders more in line with rubrics, it looks like it's paying off.

The general advice was genrally made when the wait times were massive. UMPI is simply 1 paper versus 3-5.

Comp 2 was the nightmare. Comp 1 although a lot of writing was pretty consistent. I recommend to grin and bear these composition courses. They are two of the most important gen Ed courses and help lay the groundwork work for a successful undergrad and beyond.

For many, it really depends on the degree program and the number of credits you're transferring in to maximize the transfer requirements. If you're doing the BLS with a concentration, completing the English I & II requirement at UMPI might be your best bet. For other BA or BABA concentrations, there are more courses to select from to max the 10 courses, you may be required to take extra courses in the concentration/major alone, in that case, taking the courses at Sophia.org or Study.com can drop your required number down to a manageable number.

Waw Rachel good recommendation Im finishing the last assignment for english2 class from sophia in one month the was able to grade my papers in 2 to 4 days very fast I remember one that I turn in it only took one day to be graded.

Sophia is very good now, can some advice how strong are the paper work for an assignment for example a UL course does it require a bunch paper for a course just like the capstone from TESU?

I'm doing BABA: Project Management
I got it down to 10 classes exactly.

HUM 103: Creative Decision Making
BUS 200: Intermediate Business Computing
BUS 244: Management Information Systems
BUS 469: Strategic Professional Communication
BUS 141: Introduction to Project Management
BUS 343: Project Risk & Cost Management
BUS 345: Database Management Systems
BUS 400: Project Management Applications
BUS 245: Programming for Managers
BUS 359: IT Project Management (I see it in YourPace's program now, as opposed to last year. Otherwise BUS 401)

Since I'm a Software Engineer, I feel like these would be fairly easy classes for me to finish in 2 terms. Also I'm assuming they will mostly be projects so I won't need THAT much writing. Plus, ChatGPT can help me out.

ChatGPT lies. A lot. I wouldn't necessarily trust it to assist with anything academic.

You'll be doing quite a bit of writing with these classes. Even projects require writing. The professors will know if you're using an app to write your assignments. You also need to cite everything in the papers and projects from peer reviewed scholarly journals. There's no getting around that. Professors also use TurnItIn to check papers for plagiarism which using an app to write your papers is. Learn how to write. You'll need that skill throughout life.

BUS359 has been on the schedule for years for YourPace but hasn't actually been available for quite awhile. When it was available, it was restricted in who could take the class. You had to be currently employed in IT and be able to use your job for a project.
