I am new to the CLEP testing. I already took the Human Growth and Development test and failed with a 40. I was very disappointed and thought I knew the material well from my study source, the REA book. I saw so much stuff on the exam that wasn't even close to the study book. I was giving up, but I'm giving it another chance. I found instacert on a search engine and decided to try this. From everything I read on this website, instacert is the way to go. I have been out of college for 30 years and find this all so overwelming. I've chosen my next exam as Intro to Sociology. I saw where someone posted this as to the second easiest exam he took and that it was a good baseline so here I go. I can use any study tips anyone has. My email is
linstu555@aol.com and anyone is free to send me anything. Thanks in advance for advice and tips. I want to take the exam before Christmas if possible. Thanks!!! Linda

Linda,
I am finishing up my bachelors and have saved the CLEPs for last.
I took my first one which was Soc and passed with a 69. I studied Instacert, and took 2 of the Petersons Practice tests
Prep for the CLEP - Peterson's
I also went to a used book store and bought a Sociology text book for about 4 bucks, but never even opened it.
I thought that I was going to fail as I was taking it because there were quite a few that I didnât know, but apparently I wasnât too far off with my guesses.
Good luck.

Linda,
You will do great. I came back to finish my degree after being out of school for about 15 years now and have found Instantcert to be better than sliced bread.
I thought I would have forgotten things after all those years, however I quickly found that I pick up concepts and file them in my brain much better than I did in high school. I am also more disciplined that I was to study. I have 3 daughters, one will be in college next year so the rush is on for me to finish my college degree before she starts college. I also want my Masters before she finishes her bachelors. It's a little race between us.
You can do this. No sweat. Just study the flashcards 5 questions at a time and go back and master the previous 5 questions before you go to the next 5 questions. Once you have mastered a section, go back and have the computer randomize the questions. You will find that you memorized some only because of the order they were in. I recommend that you take the Astronomy DSST because it will get you a letter grade.
There is no study guide for it on instantcert, but I studied free sparknotes online for 2-3 hours the night before and passed it with an "A" grade. (I have never taken a science course) It meets the science requirement. Hope this helps.
I recommend that you post your educational goal and your accomplishments in your signature. It will help others to give you good tailored advice and you may also be able to answer others questions once you have taken your own clep exams.
Go get em' kiddo..
