Skipping the Last Year of High School in the USA Through Proficiency Tests

I received a second e-mail from Penn Foster.
An admissions specialist (I think she is a robot, in fact) sent me a closer look at its High School Diploma Program:

Exams - approx. 104 for the standard High School program  (my son did 75% of it in his country)

Textbooks – 8 (eBooks for Literature - Course #17, some electives have textbooks/eBooks') 




She did not reply the questions I did.

I do not know if my son will get credits for the last 3 years in High School and how to do it. How to transfer them, transcript, evaluate.

She didn't reply about Proficiency English Test.

She didn't talk about how to transfer credits or details about Admission process.

Happily, I received a reply from a real person from Penn Foster. 
I will adapt the message and not just copy and paste. But the most important idea will be here:

After reviewing his high school transcript, we can better understand his academic standing and estimate how quickly he could complete his studies. We allow a maximum transfer of 15 credits out of the required 21, meaning he must complete at least six credits with us. If he only has these six credits left, can he finish them in one month? Our program is self-paced with no minimum time requirement. Although it's rare for a student to complete six credits in just one month, it is technically feasible.

This was explained before here by @bjcheung77

In terms of ACE credits and the Sophia partnership, these options are more closely associated with our Penn Foster College division. To take advantage of these, a student must first complete and graduate with a high school diploma.

I understand that I can not transfer ACE credits or Sophia to be used for the High School Diploma. Is this correct?

About Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems:

Yes, we offer the Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems.

Although he cannot pursue the high school diploma and college degree programs simultaneously, it is still feasible for him to complete both within this year, especially if he has transferable credits. We accept ACE credits for the college program, pending the evaluation of official transcripts.

Additionally, we accept up to 75% of transferred credits to fulfill the program requirements.

Maybe @bjcheung77 can explain how to develop this plan.


About tuition costs:

Although we do not provide scholarships, we do offer monthly payment plans.
The best discount is available for those who pay in full. Additionally, we have reduced tuition fees for students who transfer credits.
For instance, the current cost of our high school program is $1,469 with automatic monthly payments of $55/month. If paid in full, the price is discounted to $1,049. If the maximum number of credits (15) are transferred, there is an additional $300 discount, reducing the total to $1,169 ($55/month) or $749 if paid in full.

The best price is $749. I imagined it related to the number of years he had already studied High School. But not, it only relates to the total credits: 21 and how many he already has.

What is the rush for him to finish high school? What are his long term goals? Is he looking to move to another country? If he is I would use caution with an NA degree as some countries are VERY particular about degrees.

This is for my son. He is 16 years old. 
The law here does not allow you to advance the "high school" here, so I am trying to find another country where he can do it. 


He is already at the degree level but I am trying to find a way to advance to the 3rd year of high school (called "ensino médio" or "second degree" (2º). 

He started a legal process to make his school to give him a Proficiency test. This was in the final of the last year. But I am not sure if it will be fast enough and he does not want to spend his year learning things that will not help him in his IT future. 

So, a second option is to transfer to a country (maybe a state) that allows him to do it. 

Is there a way to do the last year of high school in the USA online?

In Brazil and maybe in other countries, the Prussian Education System is a prison. If you are very good, you will need to spend the same time as the others who are not good. 

He plans to start his Bachelor's in Computer Science in the USA this year (2025) and asked in a legal process to finish the last year of our "high school" faster. Maybe in TESU or UMPI (if the option starts there this year).  The problem with UMPI is that the YOURPACE program does not accept people under 20 years old.
I am trying to find a good option to him. 

His uncles live in Canada but he has no interest in going there.

Maybe the question can be other:
'Why spend your lifetime learning classes useless'? Classes will not improve you and your mind. 
Just read, memorize, take a test and forget the useless material you memorized for the test. 

As I wrote, he studies at the degree level (systems analysis and development). He has no interest to wake up 4:55am, get a bus and stay on it for 1h, stay in a military High school from 6:50am to 12:40pm, go to work (13:00 - 19:00), and then studying systems analysis and development online at home. 

The high school classes have no relation to his interest in the TI area. 

He will work for an American or Canadian company, probably. 
It is better to finish his studies there. 

TESU and Excelsior accept Penn Foster high school diploma. It is enough.

Your timeline is what many American students deal with. Many are up early to catch busses. My high school picks up students at 6:30 am on my street. Classes begin at 7am and they're in classes until 230pm. Then many have sports, after school activities, or jobs. I worked in high school so I was gone from 7:15 am until 10:30 pm then I had to homework. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Ashworth College has a James Madison High School division as well, since Ashworth is a subsidiary of Penn Foster, the James Madison High School division is a sister company of Penn Foster High school. You can decide on going there instead, the reason is... Penn Foster let their ACE recommended for college credit classes expire, thus, the plans I thought of years ago, will need tweaking...

There are a few other options that fell threw the cracks as well, Excel Education Systems, parent company for Excel High School & Washington Technical Institute (previously known as WOLI), also let their ACE expire. Citizens' High School is another one that may work, but, I wouldn't go there, as the cost is much more than the three I mentioned earlier. I would get the Sophia.org classes completed first (90+ credits), then come back...

I can not say the same routine will happen with all students in Brazil. Some of them have rich parents, so they do not need to work. After the High School classes they will rest or play games. 
My son is the unique of his class who works. Their friends play with him for this reason.

Are you talking about HIGH SCHOOL or DEGREE level?

Penn Foster's diploma will be accept by TESU.

So, where is the problem?

He can finish his High School next month (or in the next 2 months) for something near $749 - $1,049.
After that he can get credits from Saylor, Sophia, CLEP (if not possible any other place: Study . com - the most expensive one) and others. For this reason I started the spreadsheet (Link sent before).


First problem:
Finish High School in the next 1 or 2 months. If possible, paying U$ 749 or less.

I need his actual school gives the Academic transcript of the 3 years he has already attended High School to see if he can get the 15 credits from Penn Foster.

If everything goes wrong, he will study the 21 credits at Penn Foster for $1,049. [ Is there a way to get these 15 credits cheaper than in Penn Foster? U$ 20 / credit ]

About other High School options I searched in Google, but I do not know if TESU will accept them and if they will be cheaper than Penn Foster.


Ashworth College is a kind of University not a High School college, right?

If yes, my son focus is:
1. Penn Foster to finish his High School. (1 - 2 months)
2. Get at least 90 credits to TESU using Saylor, Sophia and other options  (2 - 5 months)
3. English Proficiency Test accepted by TESU (a lot expensive)
4. TESU Computer Science (8 weeks)

What do I need to adjust in the spreedsheat to create a better plan?
