Should I send CLEP scores?

I'm ordering my first CLEP tests to take some time next week (Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Information Systems), but I'm unsure whether I should send my scores. I can either send the scores for free to TESU, where I tentatively plan to complete my degree, or I can wait to send my scores. Am I correct in assuming there's no downside to sending my scores there now, and that I can order a $20 transcript later on if I end up changing schools?

I would make use of the free score report, and send it somewhere you're thinking of going.

Yes, you can always send it to another school later for a small fee.

They also allow you to send all your CLEP scores, or send only a specific score.

Go ahead and send it, but know that if you don't apply reasonably soon, TESU is likely to throw it out since they won't have a student record to tie it to.

If you send them to TESU, they won't know what to do with them unless you are a student there. So make sure you're already enrolled, or have at least applied before sending.

Bummed I didn't realize that if you didn't send it to begin with, it costs money later on. I was under the assumption you could send before or after, once, for free. So I would say have them send the scores to begin with.

Just to emphasize, when you ultimately send a transcript, you pay 1 fee and it has ALL your CLEP scores- you won't pay per CLEP score.

davewill and dfrecore are correct. Is there any school you've previously attended you could send the scores to? ACE experts - would sending the scores to ACE be a better idea? This is a common question - how to best maximize the value of free score reports at time of examination when the test taker isn't enrolled somewhere yet.

Most schools are going to want to get your CLEP scores directly from CLEP (especially ones that don't accept ACE).  So, while you CAN send your CLEP/DSST scores to ACE, it won't help much.

It depends on your ultimate goal, If you think that you will qualify for financial aid and you have a stack of CLEP and DSST scores like I do then I recommend that you don't send them to a community college for example. Federal Aid is disbursed only to students who have credits less than 150% of what it requires to get a degree at the college.
I'm currently under advisement administration (my GPA is 3.5) because I sent my community college all my CLEP and DSST scores along with all my transcripts and so although I paid for them myself and the other courses on my transcipt Federal Aid views them as a demonstrated liability of taking courses that don't apply. I'm now "locked in" to an Associates Degree in Accounting at my community college and I can't change my major if I wanted to. Not ideal as I'm at 94 credits at Excelsior College and I might want to take classes at my CC that will apply to my BS at Excelsior but because I'm locked in I can only take Federal Aid paid classes that are degree specific at my CC. If you go the Community College route make sure you only transfer in the CLEP and DSST that are specific to your particular associates degree.
