Shmoop- UGH! bogging me down
#1
Is it just me, or is Shmoop too long and unnecessarily tedious? I am well versed in the subject matter I am trying to test in and can't pass due to it being mostly questions about what they wrote in the course, and not the actual topic! UGH! I was so happy to find courses I THOUGHT I could just breeze through, having already studied them in depth. NOPE! It is very frustrating. I don't think I will renew at the end of this month... Seems a total waste to me. I've been trying for one week to wade through ONE course... not worth it to me, when I KNOW the topic backwards and forwards but cannot get through their tests. banghead
I'm trying to decide if I should abandon it altogether or stick it out and keep trying! I could be in study.com right now ...but noooo...
I guess I need to finish what I paid for.

I can't help you, besides saying I understand totally. Shmoop wasn't easy for me either (and I didn't complete any of the courses I started with them). I hope you'll figure something out and make it through!

You do have to read their course material, general knowledge in the subject won't be enough to pass the unit exams. That's why I kept every single tab open for each unit, so that I could go back and find the answer relatively quickly during the test. If it's history, that's pretty straightforward. If it's lit, that means a looot of tabs. Also get familiar with the symbolism pages, and the summaries, and the character pages for the work(s) in the unit.

I did it*. So can you!

*except for Contemporary Lit. That course is ugly and unpassable, and I complained to Shmoop and ACE about it.
TESU BALS Humanities, thanks to this place!

I ended up doing that for my Bible as Literature course : opening all tabs and side links as needed. FINALLY passed. I def will do that for the other courses I will attempt to take. THANKS! excellent tip. :iagree:
I am extremely well versed in Shakespeare and history (I used to teach them) but will use the tab method as well! I want to get my money's worth here... Can't afford not to.

* makes solid note to myself to RUN from contemp lit!* HAHAHA

Total understand what you mean. I did horrible on a section on Shakespeare that I've read many, many time. Same with Jane Austen. Heck, I remember reading a question on Harry Potter and getting it wrong and I've read those books more times that I want to admit. Their tests stink. I have taught on some of those books and had trouble with the tests. They want them to be cheat proof but it undermines the entire learning process. I cancelled my membership early.

Ok. I passed Shakespeare (I BETTER have, since I taught it for years!)

I thought I saw a list of what Shmoop offers that is UL credit for TESU but can't find it now. I want to be sure I take some UL while I have this Shmoop account for 2 more weeks. as I won't be renewing it...

anyone have that list? Thanks!

This is a repeat of the previous post. It also doesn't clarify that these course numbers are TESU course numbers only, not Shmoop's, and we don't have info on what they are at COSC or EC.

I posted at exactly the same time as AJ Atlanta and the question was asking the upper level transfers to TESU.
