Seeking Advice on SOS-1100 and Business Capstone (BUS-4210)
#1
Hi All,

I will be taking my two required TESU courses during the October term to complete my degree, and registration just opened up. I am seeking advice/input on what the best course of action would be, and am curious if anyone has any recommendations as to the best instructors. I have not taken a course at TESU before. My options are as follows:

BUS-4210:
  • Guided Study with Timothy P. Kenny
  • Online with Bari L. Courts
SOS-1100 (all are Online):
  • Dr. Patrick M. McKiernan
  • Dr. Nickolas H. Dominello
  • Dr. Donna J. Duellberg
  • David Bradnick
  • John Bradley
  • Dale F. Coye
  • Victoria L. Hallberg
  • Jamey J. Heit
  • Jill Legare
  • Michele L. Herrera
Thanks in advance for any responses!

PS - This forum has been an invaluable tool in my journey to complete my degree. I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish my BSBA (knock on wood) so quickly without the inputs of the members and moderators of this forum, and the DegreeForum Wiki. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to DegreeForum and made this possible.

I had Dr. Courts for the Capstone and would recommend him. He was very fair with grading the assignments. Just make sure you meet the word requirement and follow the rubric and you should be fine. The last case study I missed citing one reference and was short on the word total and got an 87 on that paper. All other assignments I got 100s. Since you’re also doing SOS-1100 at the same time I strongly recommend getting the textbook ASAP and start reading. The capstone is very time intensive. Lots and lots of reading. The class moves very fast and the midterm will come around quickly. Between working full time and doing the assignments I did not feel prepared for the midterm at all…..so much so that I totally bombed it. Having said all that I still managed to get a 90 in the class. For SOS-1100 I had Jill Legare and would also recommend. Lots of writing in the class but I enjoyed this one. Fair grading; got 100 in this class.

As already stated, the TESU Business Capstone is pretty intense, and the Online had group discussions - which seem like a pain, but in reality are just easy points (as long as you participate in them properly and on time). I'm not sure if the Self Guided has the group discussions. The paper is not what challenged me, it was the midterm exam - 'know your lists' for the midterm (this will make sense once you start to read the textbook). I answered one of the "list the X of Y" (not really X or Y, its not math after all) and I went blank on one question cause all I could remember was that "L of P list". When I got my midterm grade I almost gave up (it wasn't good) - but alas, I soldiered on (put all I had into the paper) and everything turned out alright. There are many online TESU BUS 421 (aka 4210) Quizlets available to help you prep for the mid term (once you study them from the text). Final advice is make sure to get the edition of the textbook they state you need (renting is a great low cost option), as the edition recommended contains the case studies you'll need to refer to.

I echo your statements about the value provided by this forum. In return, I try to pay it forward and educate others.

I'm down to 3 courses left for My BSBA, and I have to take them all at TESU, including the two you mentioned. Does anyone know what books are needed for these courses? I would like to start reading now.

What are the 3 classes you have left?  If you're doing the double BA/BSBA degree, I would guess it's the cornerstone and two capstones... I highly recommend reviewing posts, threads, and the WIKI for info.  Cornerstone doesn't have any textbooks, but the two capstones do, you should always check with the TESU website for requirements.  I'll link you to them below, it's on their website and the preview/overview of syllabus requirements:

Thank you! I am not doing Double BA/BSBA, just the single BSBA for CIS. The 3 classes I have left are the cornerstone, capstone, and CMP-2020 foundations of information technology.

One thing I find very difficult is to write papers so I'm trying to do as much prep as possible for the capstone.

Thank you for this info.

Hmm, why not transfer in the CMP class instead?

I have 9/15 mandatory credits remaining to take @ TESU. I picked CMP class because it should be easy.

Seems good! What was your previous two classes at TESU? I guess that's a good option to getting the residency credits and also graded GPA to boot.

Introduction to Critical Reasoning and Software Engineering. Both were highly recommended courses to take here. I received A's in both.
