Second Degree - School Swap?

Yeah... I see your point, and I don't disagree. The fact is... what we're discussing here is definitley not the "expected" or "suggested" thing to do. As noted, if it's do-able, it's a "loophole". I wouldn't lie or misrepresent anything to either school... I will legitimately not have a degree from either one when I apply. By definition, I would be transferring credits. The fact that the credits also remain with the institution that I transferred from is not the business of the recipient school. I dunno - just looking at different options here.

When I sent in my application for graduation from TESC, I had to sign my name to the fact that I did not have the same degree elsewhere. I don't have the link or the word or word- but if you go to the TESC forms, you can pull up the pdf graduation application and read the exact thing you are signing your name to. Perhaps if you finished TESC first, you wouldn't be lying. (unless EC requires a similar statement to be signed- then you can let your conscious be your guide)
I agree that this exploits the no-residency requirement, however, unless it is specifically not allowed- then so what!?!? Besides, you could get different degrees (BA in xxxx from TESC and a BS in xxxx from EC). You won't be able to use CLEP English comp, so you might have to take that one.

Agreed... if i saw that question, the entire idea instantly goes out the window. I will not do all this hard work and chance throwing it all away - I will not lie about anything. If it had to be, ok - I go for the 30 additional credits. Not a catastrophe. Thanks to all who responded to this!

Also, remember that the 30 additional credits can be in ANY SUBJECT (as long as you otherwise meet ALL the requirements for the second degree). So it might be relatively easy for you to just take a few extra CLEP/DANTES exams, to reach the 30 credit mark. That way you would not be working a loophole at all.

If you can utilize the 6-credit CLEPs, we are only talking about taking five additional CLEPs. At worst, you would need to take ten more exams. If you love taking these exams and are addicted to taking them, you will find it highly doable to take a few extra ones.

My mum always said....if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

I would go ahead and take the extra exams so that you can forevermore hold your head up high when you tell people that you have TWO degrees.

It is not shady, unless they are allowing you to enroll and ignoring the fact that you already have a BS degree, then it would be a violation of their own policy to award you a 2nd degree in the same area.

They are allowed to admit you as a student and their is nothing shady about that as far as I can see. It is their policy to enforce and not a law of any kind.

After reading everyone's posts, doing a lot of thinking about it, reading school policies and graduation applications, I have come to the conclusion that there's nothing wrong with what I am trying to accomplish.

My BA (Lib Studies) will be from TESC and will be obtained well before the degree from EC which will be a BS (Gen Business). These are two completely different degrees with different core requirements. The only similarity is that they are both 4-year degrees and I'm certain that this is not what EC means when they ask if you have a "similar degree".

I am very close to eligibility for my BA at TESC which means that right now, I do not have a BA. I submitted my app to EC recently and have already requested all transcripts sent (inc. TESC). When I file the graduation app for TESC, I will be asked if I have a degree from another college and the answer is legitimately 'no'. There's a few month lag time between filing TESC's graduation app and actual degree conferral. In that time, I will be working on core requirements for the BS at EC (statistics, macro, micro, ethics, and whatever else they tell me I need when they complete my assessment). When I'm finished with those core and have met all other requiremts, I will apply for graduation from EC. By that time, my BA from TESC will have been issued, and I will be asked by EC if I have a "similar degree" and the answer will legitimately be 'no'.

I got into a rather heated discussion with the significant other about this tonight.

She insisted that having 2 degrees (Business and Psych) was a complete waste of additional time (I would need 6 more exams) and money (additional enrollment + graduation fees).

I think her "reasoning" was primarily fueled by the psych degree she has that in her words is pretty much worthless.

Personally I don't see how that's possible.

So I would like to hear some opinions from others on the issue of 2 degrees.

... psych degrees are fun and it looks cool on your wall when you are done with it but if you are not planning on going to grad school for psych then... yeah it is worthless if you already have another degree. Dont get me wrong I am going to pursuit a second degree in psych just because but there really is no value to it. It is just going to be a very expensive bullet on my resume.

I really wouldn't consider a Psych degree worthless. I saw a job advertised on Monster yesterday for a HR Manager. It said that the candidate had to have a 4 yr degree in Business, HR, Management, or Psych. I was kinda shocked to see that, but it is what it is.

Lots of businesses look favorably on people who have a Psych degree in addition to their first one (assuming it's in Business). Once I get my BA in Psych, I plan on either getting a second Bachelors in Business degree or a MBA.

Here is my question, I am currently working on a business degree at TESC. However, recently I have been considering the possibility of getting a second degree in English Lit from Excelsior. After I finish my current degree, could I take the GRE Literature and if I make a high enough score cover the thirty additional credits required for the major, and would the CLEP's/DSST's/Online Classes I am have taken and am taking at TESC be counted towards the English Lit Excelsior degree GPA. It's kind of "worthless" (tongue in cheek, I promise) like an English degree, which is what my degree will be hilarious
To me, no education is worthless and no degree when only about 25% of the workforce has a Bachelor's can be a waste. However, I am fully aware that my degree won't make me as much as, say, Economics or Finance, but I like it, I'm good at it, and I'll still be in the top 1/4 with a degree. A degree is never a guarantee of anything, but it opens up doors you wouldn't have had without it.
I've seen HR Training jobs advertised with Bachelor requirements in English, Communications, Business, Psych, etc. I'm fully confident I can spin it into jobs in Corporate America if need be, as I work there now.
However, I'm going to Grad school for English Lit and Language. I have a burning desire to teach 18 and 19 year old College freshmen and help mold them to not make the same mistakes I did. I like teaching others more than I have really ever enjoyed anything else, and I'll make it work. But I'm not going into an English degree blind, or thinking it's my ticket to a magical $100k/year job. I think that a lot of Humanities degrees, as well as Arts and certain Sciences, don't have a market ready when you graduate. You have to create your own, and it can be done, but it's not as easy as with other majors.
Then again, it's what you love. I would rather read Shakespeare and write a 30 page paper a million times over than do a single Accounting exam, and neither in my opinion is better than the other. It's just different.
