HA! They are PURCHASING a complete mess! Although they're buying more than just the competency-based programs, so maybe they don't care about that as much? Not sure, we shall see.
At this point, I would NOT recommend someone go through Kaplan for a competency-based degree.

It also seems that, instead of exams, competency is determined via a performance task. This is the kind of thing that was attempted in k-12 schools for a while in place of multiple choice tests and it was a complete mess. It could include writing assignments, presentations, pretty much anything. In this case, the performance tasks would blow up the timeline.

They would not provide a sample of the assignments but encouraged me to register to try out. I don't know enough about the material to judge if it's good or bad. However it is a fact that everyone agrees the program can be problematic with the short terms. At this point I'm not sure what other school would be a good fit for what I want to do. I will keep investigating. Thanks everyone.

I've been trying to avoid WGU because everyone goes there ;-) but it seems it is the best choice so far from all directions. Also Capella Flexpath seems good but could be double the cost of WGU. There's a great deal of info about WGU and real finishers within 6 months. I would hate to start an MBA program and have to drop it for not making the right decisions and at the end you lose time and money. Is there anyone what would prefer Capella FlexPath MBA vs WGU MBA , IT Management? Is the WGU MBA, IT real doable in 6 months? What the approx time commentment for WGU for such program? Does anyone has a course example or what's the estimated time to finish a course and start the next ? I can commit about 15-20 hours per week studying or more if I can get ahead and make progress.

Dang! That's too bad, I would assume they're the same as Capella/Walden or other Competency Based programs, the main reason and only reason I mentioned Kaplan is the PLA option vs transfer credits, the other schools only allow up to 6-9 credits, *sigh*. If they allow the maximum transfer of 75% of the courses through quick assessments, I would really think about it.... now, not so much until I get more info, having a "Purdue" degree is just the gravy on top... oh well...

WGU is my first choice as well, they're non-profit and the alumni base is growing! Did you read the other thread about who's online? 80,000+ students from WGU. Thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/showthr...?tid=28384
If you are very good with computers or want something different, you may want to do what YB1 is doing, he's contemplating on the Hodges MPA, you might go for MIS instead if you're tech-savvy. Thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/showthr...?tid=28360

Thanks , Yeah, I'm looking into the Hodges MPA and discussed program with the Admissions Manager. It's $3000 for 6 months plus other university fees.
I asked for an example of assignments and approximate length of time per course. Anyone has experience with this program? Is it doable in 6 months. Is it assignment based or essays or exams? I can invest 15-21 hours per week or more depending how fast I can get into it.
Sorry it is $3,500

Yup, I wrote about them in a previous post, a husband and wife team both completed the program one after the other in 1 term of 6 months.
It's an interesting program, I would go for it! Link: https://www.hodges.edu/Profile/Ryan-and-Kayla-Harp/
Here's a snippet: “The UPOWER program was laid out very easily. It made taking the classes stress-free because you knew what you had to do to complete the class,” he explained. Following in his footsteps, Kayla enrolled in the UPOWER MPA program in November 2016, saying, “I was focused on getting the program completed within my six-month subscription, so on my days off, I would be working on my classes. For the six months, I really did not have much free time. Writing the papers and the PowerPoint presentations are what took up most of the time, and of course, reading all of the material.”

Hi bjcheung77 , thanks that real cool. There is also the WGU MBA in Information Technology Management which has over 90% of student completion. I'm fine with whatever is faster, cheaper and better. Thanks everyone.

For faster and easier, I would pick whichever you have the most knowledge in, but I would probably go with a WGU MBA.

Hi Ideas, you have a point as well. Also there is a large community of existing students. I have been trying to avoid WGU since everyone goes there and wanted to do something different. On the other hand I see the value of the university from a convenience and cost perspective. I'm getting closer and closer in making a decision so I ask everyone to please comment on whatever you think it's best. Hodges MPA doesn't seem hard when I checked the program but WGU MBA in IT Management is not bad at all and there is a high percentage of completion within 6 months. At this point I'd like to get into an easy , fast Master program that I can finish in 1 term.
