update on issue with TESC a+ and net+ certs and other certs
#1
Hey all just wanted to give an update on issue with getting TESC to use link on the certifications instead of notary. So short recap Notary would not notarize any of my certs because they have no way to validate if it is legit or not. (which they are correct)

I contacted TESC and they had me write/type on a piece of paper my full name , address, and last 4 of my SSN and small statement I earned these certs and sign it. The notary checks my ID and notarizes that she witnessed me sign in. So that takes care of the notary issue. I look forward to seeing what they transcribe my HDI cert as ,but at least I know where the others are going.

Also just FYI if anyone else is mixing credits you may check with your Community College or School, I got 4 credits for my A+ exam since it is actually 2 tests you may check to see. (4 credits is better than 2 from TESC **A+ Prep course )

**rest is just a rant **
***I am not advising doing any of the below I just can't believe that they have made it that easy to do ****

There are several way this could be abused and is just rather absurd ,but alas

So if my name was Mike Johnson all I would have to do is
A. Search online for Mike Johnson who have CompTIA, Microsoft, or other certs and have them e-mail me pdfs
B. Find real cert pictures cut out there name and insert Mike Johnson and take to any notary. (Since they cannot validate without using online links)
C. Make up bogus certificates and take to notary.
D. Sit back and collect 40+ credits for being creative with photoshop

I am curious about what certs are accepted, as I am thinking of switching from BSEET to a CIS or MIS type of degree. While I still actively participate in electronics, I have been in IT for 18 years now and it might make more sense to complete that first.

Strangely I avoided most of the certs they list, because I wanted really challenging certs that few people had.
What I do have are somewhere between 20-25 certifications that are from other manufacturers like Sun, Brocade, VMware, Fortinet, Riverbed, NetApp, EMC, Hitachi, and APC. I also have some odd ball classes or certs like ITIL, CMMI, & Business Consulting. Strangely I just got a cert on LUSTRE filesystem even though I have worked on that and other parallel FS's for over 10 years now.
But for example I took the entire Sun Microsystems curriculum for becoming a Sun certified enterprise engineer, it included three certs for solaris adminI & II & networking, plus several non cert classes for design, install and troubleshooting.
Then I went much further and became a certified Sun instructor and taught all those same certs and classes I just mentioned.
Do you think I be able to provide them a list of material covered and it accepted? Or does this sound more like PLA attempt at credits?

your thoughts would be apprciated.

Wow that is a nice little odd ball list Smile depending on which degree your going for you may not be able to utilize all of them. I'm running into that now where my 9 free electives needed are bumping each other. If I was in your place I would ask myself which will benefit you best. If you have been in IT for 18 years which will benefit you better or give you a Plan B option. Like if your job history and previous experience would allow you to land the same jobs then do you just need any Bachelors to check the box. It does kind of sound like that would be borderline PLA ,but if none of the certs are on their list at all that may be best.

The other thing I would say is if you could find courses similar there or at ACE maybe you could make a case it. I guess it is possible they could give you at least 2 credits a cert. Another possibility would be creating your own degree Learner Designed Area of Study (LDAS) Thomas Edison State College: Learner Designed Area of Study (LDAS)
