I took the REA practice test and got 68 out of 140 questions correct. According to the REA scaled score chart, that's a 60 scaled score. I don't see how that low a percentage can be a scaled score of 60. Does anyone know what the raw score needs to be to pass the humanities clep? How many out of 140 do you need to get right?

A raw score of 50 is required to pass the exam. That is score equates to a C in two semesters of Humanities.

Just chipping in to reduce confusion. This post does not answer the original question
A raw score is the number of questions answered correctly (CLEP does not negatively mark for incorrect answers and it appears that each correct answer is worth the same). A raw score is then transformed into a scaled score. The transformation function is not known and appears to be weighted differently across the CLEP tests. Usually a scaled score of 50 (out of a maximum of 80) is required to earn credit.
A raw score of 50 (questions answered correctly) is probably not a scaled score of 50 - there are 140 questions, some of which aren't marked.
Nzumhagen, a rule of thumb most people use here, is to take practice tests until they answer more than half correctly, and probably 60% to feel comfortable. You're looking really good so far, so just try to increase your studying and you'll be able to push it over the line on the day!

If I remember correctly, the REA practice tests were very close to the real thing, but the REA review was much too broad.

I just took this test minutes ago... I'd say that there is a really wicked curve to this thing. Wicked, in your favor. I knew all of the IC cards verbatim and went through all of the test review stuff in the specific feedback posts. I seem to have had the 'other' test that no one had seen. Out of the 140 questions at least 50 pertained to things I'd never seen. None of the names nothing. So unless I got really lucky with my guesses I'd agree that the number of correct responces must be in the neighborhood of 50. I scored a 67 on the exam. I'd say that if you've studied that much and if anything that you studied looked instantly familiar to you, you should be pretty much set to sit the exam. If I were to graph my scores on exams against how well I thought I did it would be pretty much linear with this one exam this would be a huge outlier. (see what I did there with all that fancy stats knowledge...) I honestly, and keep in mind that this was my 22nd exam, thought that I'd finally failed one.

Humanities was my first and most difficult test. It's worth 6 credits, so make sure that your practice test results are within a safe margin for error.
Also, 140 questions in 90 minutes is a lot - more than most, so you have to remember not to get hung up on any one question.
Good luck!

Buy an REA study guide book and it comes with practice tests. If you buy it with a CD for several dollars more, you'll get electronic versions of the tests that are in the study guide.

Funny thing is the sample tests in this book are nothing like the flash cards......
What is best for preparation?
