Scheduled my first test for Thursday.
#1
Scheduled my first test for Management Information systems on Thursday. It is at 7:00 PM. They said it could take up to 2 hours, but from what I been reading it usually only takes maybe a half hour.

I read most of the advice given, but what are some things you do before a test? Do you eat before hand? Stuff like that.

Congrats on taking the first step!!

As far as eating don’t go in on an empty stomach. A lot of testing centers don’t allow beverages or stuff in, so take a sip before you go in, but don’t guzzle. Using the restroom beforehand also isn’t a bad idea.
I’d bring/wear an extra shirt, jacket or something so that you can remain comfortable if it’s hot you can take it off, cold, keep it on. You get the picture. A lot of people don’t care, some people do. It’s pretty much preference. You’ll have to find what works best for you on a lot of this “pre test” stuff.
I usually get to my place early and spend a couple minutes doing some last second overview.

The test center already told you this probably, but you’ll need 2 forms of ID (one with a picture) and your SSN. Also, make sure you payment ready to go (for example, my test center will only accept a check or money order, no cash. Find this out!). For the test itself you’ll use a CC.

NOTE: Unless you’re already enrolled in a college, BEFORE the test itself, select “Score Recipient not listed”.
NOTE: At the END of the test, it will ask you if you want to send your scores. Hit YES, or Confirm or whatever it is (can’t quite recall). YOU WANT TO SEE WHAT YOU SCORED. Whether you see them or not makes no difference.

Go in with confidence, and tell us how you did! Good luck!

I feel the need to clarify a couple of things that Publius suggested:
* in regards to your IDs, at least one must be a primary ID (government-issued with an expiration date, your name, photo and signature), the second ID must contain your name along with a signature or photo (like a signed credit card, a school ID, your social security card, etc.).
* SSN -- NOT required! This field is optional to fill out. Yes, it makes it easier for the CLEP service reps to locate your records if the SSN field is entered, but this is no longer required due to the identity theft issues and the fact that colleges no longer use your SSN as your student number. Remember, this testing program has been around for a long time, so they have made some adjustments.
* test payment -- make sure to know your test center's requirements. Some are set up to allow for any form of payment to CLEP (cash, check, credit card) whereas others do not want to deal with mailing CLEP cash and/or checks so will only allow credit cards.
* Score recipient not listed -- this option is only to be selected if the college/university you attend is NOT on the provided list of schools (by state). If you do not need to send official scores to any school, you will select your state of residence and then "Do Not Send" -- completely different from "Score Recipient Not Listed"

Rockhead, I have never heard someone say this exam only takes about "half an hour". The maximum time allotted once the first question comes up is 90 minutes, plus there will be non-test time used to view the tutorial screens (this can take new candidates 15+ minutes).

Thanks for the clarification.

Never knew this. Good to know (even though I don't have any more CLEPs left). My proctor advised me to do that since I wasn't enrolled in a college at the time. Always thought it was a bit goofy. Still think it would be nice to have a "Not going to school option" cause that would be the most easy.

Yeah they told to only bring one ID and just my bank card, and a money order for $20 for the sitting.

It is UoP where I am enrolled, so that is already done too.

Yeah, worst thing is I started a new diet two weeks ago (which is doing wonders already) but I have to hit the bathroom like every 30 minutes, so I am hoping this is one of those times where that doesn't happen ha ha.

Right now I am reading the text book and going through the flash cards. Also UoP has the practice test on their website.

Make sure to check with your academic advisor at UoP to find out if they want your official results directed to your local campus or to the main campus in Phoenix, AZ -- it makes a difference and you will be charged a separate transcript fee if it does not end up where UoP wants it.

Good luck! *I didn't eat/drink because I worried I'd have to go to the bathroom lol

Yeah I spoke with him, and the test center, they said they know exactly where to send it. Though I am having a hard time studying lately with a new diet I started. But I already know most of the material.

If you are at all easily distracted, you might want to bring a pair of ear plugs. At my last test, I wish I'd brought them AND a nose plug. The test administrator had a visitor who had a fractious toddler. Fortunately, it was before I had actually started the exam. I went out, apologized for being a grinch, and asked if the child would be there for the rest of the exam. The child was taken away. I wish the HEAVY, HEAVY scent of the test administrator's perfume could have been taken away too.

You'll quickly find what works for you. Good luck.
