Saylor Piloting New Proctor ($5/test instead of $25)
#1
This seems promising. Title says it all. Might not be a great difference for some, but it is a good discount, and depending on how the new proctor operates, it might be less intimidating (and irritating) than ProctorU.

Judging from the FAQs linked on Saylor's forum, the pilot service is similar to RPNow. Also not available for students in the EU at this time.

Yay! This made things cheaper, now there are so many options again for ACE credit and still cheap... this is nice, it'll go much farther than the NCCRS options because of price alone. They just have to "clean up" their courses a bit and it'll be an amazing deal! I like Saylor because of the cost mainly...

Unfortunately, their courses are still generally crappy, so...

But if they fixed the problems, it might be worth doing a couple of exams.

If you use them as a sort of "challenge exam" to prove you already know the stuff, $5 isn't bad at all.

My husband took the CS402: Computer Communications and Networks exam several years ago, he said it was the worst he's ever taken.  Completely wrong answers multiple times, outdated, all kinds of issues.  He tried to fight them on it, but there were at least 7 incorrect answers at the time, and they couldn't be bothered to answer him, let alone correct the mistakes on his exam.  He finally gave up and moved on.

He's been in the IT business for more than 20 years, has multiple exams under his belt during that entire time, so he wasn't a newbie or anything.

Just to say from his end, it definitely was not worth the $25 (the price then) and he wouldn't take it again for even $5, since the possibility of passing is not good.

My 2 sons this course also.  They got credit for it from TESU on their extra Associates degree, but they had the same problem with the exams.  Honestly, they took the practice exams multiple times, and just realized the answers Saylor wanted even if they were wrong.

Yeah, there's probably a reason why a lot of their computer courses are not ACE-recommended anymore, but it seems like they have some other pretty solid ones. I hope they can keep improving in that, and I'm sure a lot of people will really benefit from having some option for $5 exams
