San Francisco Bay Area Test Centers?
#1
Since I first researched Bay Area test centers in 2008 (and posted my results in the forum) it seems that all of the test centers I found have stopped administering DSST and CLEP tests. One place suggested I try Sacramento, and I'd really rather not do that if I can avoid it.

Does anyone know of any test centers in the greater Bay Area? The lists provided by CLEP and DANTES are useless, so I have to go by word of mouth.

Thanks!

Do they offer testing for non-students? I thought they didn't when I contacted them in the past.

I just found that Foothill College in Los Altos still does DANTES testing; it wasn't obvious from their website, but I called and asked.

I'm not sure why the UOP campuses near me (Concord, Fairfield, Hayward, etc.) appear to have closed their test centers. I wonder if it is expensive for colleges to offer testing now?

Great to hear! I originally had a hard time getting a call back from their test center, so this helps.

I just returned from Foothill College (Los Altos) where I took two DSSTs. The coordinator said they had TWO people taking DSSTs in the same day, and that was unheard of! They don't seem to advertise the fact that they offer them, but they do. Decent test environment, just a loooong drive for me.

I just talked to some more University of Phoenix test centers in the Bay Area today. Note that not all UOPs offer testing to non-students, so it is important to check.

All have an admin fee of $25 per test, and you can only take one test per appointment.

San Francisco UOP offers CLEP & Dantes testing by appointment.
Call 415-268-1570
They are at:
One Front Street
First Floor, Suite 200
San Francisco, CA 94111
This is in the Financial District; be prepared to pay for parking.

Oakland UOP offers CLEP testing only, on Mondays and Thursdays at 8:30 am. You must make an appointment. Talk to Bobbi at (510) 457-3304.
They are at:
1200 Clay Street
Oakland, CA 94612
Parking garages in the area charge in 15-20 minute intervals. A fast test cost me at least $6 in parking.

Concord UOP offers Dantes testing only, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 am. Call to make an appointment at least 48 hours in advance with Samantha, at 925-349-2313.
They are at:
1401 Willow Pass Road, Suite 200
Concord, CA 94520
I would not expect to pay for parking at this location.

I will probably be trying out the Concord and Oakland locations in the coming months and will try to remember to update this thread with more info.

Wanted to add to Alix's list

UOP of Livermore does DSST and CLEP Wednesdays at 9am and Thursdays at 2pm. I called SF and they had appointments for late June. Livermore had openings next week. Not sure how parking is there...

Thanks, Prim! As with SF, Oakland also had about a 3-4 week lead time...which is difficult when you are used to fast-paced study/test cycles! Don't they know that we are rabid test takers?

There is a new test administrator for UOP Oakland -- I updated the info above to reflect her contact details.

I'm scheduled for a test at UOP Concord (Dantes) this week and will let you know if I have updates on that test center.
