SNHU & BA in Graphic Design
#1
I've been going through posts for awhile now on here and Reddit, so I've been calculating how I can afford BA Graphic Design and Media Art at SNHU as an international student learning online and paying out-of-pocket and it seems like I might have calculated incorrectly.

I've read how many have transferred credits as much as 90 from Sophia, Straighterline and Study etc.
I had planned to do the same. I was so focused on GeneralEd and the 42 credits that I need and the 30 electives, that I did not notice the 36 credits for the major and 12 credits for a concentration.
Only one major is available on Sophia.

The total that I'll end up having to spend at SNHU now comes up to about $15K. It seems like the max I could get from credit transfer would be 75 since I would need to complete the major and the concentration. I thought it was possible to only have to spend 30 credits at SNHU but 45 credits is really costly.

There is no other way around this I suppose, is there?

Maybe this question should be moved to the Big 3 and other schools subforum because it is more geared towards maxing transfers than specific ACE and NCCRS courses.

The first thing that could help us know what you need is to transfer what you have and see where they fit in SNHU's degree. And then we can find alternate courses to fill in the gaps. Maybe also suggest NCCRS courses since we know that school accepts them. There are some graphics design courses online that are NCCRS that don't get discussed a lot because of their cost. In some cases it is just cheaper to do them at the university and focus more energy on ACE credit. Do you have any google certs? The UX design one will be related to that degree and should be accepted at SNHU.

Where should I move this to again?
I don't have anything to transfer at the moment and I'd like to have a plan in place before pursuing any credit courses.
As mentioned, the general Ed and electives seem to be covered through third-party courses but my main concern is the remaining 45 credits.

The gap are major and concentration of 45 credits that alternatives aren't available. I do not have a Google cert and that is not one of the major subjects.

I'm not aware of NCCRS. By ACE credits are you referring to third-party courses?

I moved the thread.

You can transfer in a max of 81 credits into the Graphic Design degree using common alt credits

That pathway would mean that instead of choosing a concentration for 12 credits with the school, I chose 4 more elective courses.

Anyone know if it's possible to complete with a concentration?

You can choose a concentration, but it costs an additional $3,000 and requires extra time to complete the courses at SNHU. For UX Design, for example, you're probably better off earning a Google UX Design certificate rather than pursuing the concentration.

That's true.

However, the difference isn't by much if I took the alternative path, I'll save $1980. 81 credits vs 75 credits (with concentration) transfered to SNHU. I planned on a web design too.

I wish Sophia.org offered a few more major or concentration courses in Graphic Design.

I wonder if the TESU Advertising TECEP can transfer as Multi-Channel Advertising Design.
