I just registered for Sociology in straighterline and when I look at the lessons I see that we need to do 10 discussion board submissions, this was not obvious from the syllabus information pdf, which was sneaky coz when I compare other syllabus information sheet they contain the grading section but only for Sociology the grading section is missing, so you only know about the 10 discussion board stuff only after you buy the course. I didn't knew it was like that is it new?
How long do they take to evaluate this submissions, that too 10 of them

Unfortunately you can tell by looking at the syllabus that the course requires written responses rather than the usual quizzes/exams. I don't see anything misleading or sneaky at all.
You may consider contacting a straighterline advisor to explain you misunderstood the layout of the course and ask to be transferred into a different course. Then CLEP Sociology which should be easily doable with the IC flashcards. I used only the chapter summaries from a textbook and passed the exam.

Actually, if you look at the syllabus link from the main site (without logging in) you go to this link https://s3.amazonaws.com/StraighterLine/...RSI_AB.pdf which only says "1000" points not how it would be graded. My bad I assumed it was exam questions.
But once you buy the course and looking at the syllabus from within the course it takes you to https://s3.amazonaws.com/StraighterLine/...I_only.pdf, which clearly shows the discussion and how its graded it also has big explanation of how the discussion submission should be done etc.
I am guessing they updated the syllabus but forgot to update the main site , I was taken by surprise. I was hoping to finish this course within a week, but not sure how long the evaluation of this assignments take.
it was only $29 as I am also doing other courses there so will look more into the content its only 10% points for discussion assignments, so hopefully won't be that bad

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

I did a quick check and it doesn't look like they have changed any other classes. I hope they do not start adding a bunch useless fluff to their classes.

Agreed. It may also require students to learn a bit more than just the search function. I am all for getting through courses as quickly as possible when the student has some prior knowledge. Having the ability to complete courses without actually learning anything, not even the cliffnotes, I feel is an injustice to the student.
Seems like SL went from a ton of busy work, to no work at all, to a light written format followed by an exam. Seems they may have finally arrived at a middle ground, a similar format to what the schools use, Big Surprise. (rolls eyes) Still cheaper than an actual course if you can use the ACE credit.

I understand what "bricabrac's " saying and totally agree that learning rather than search function is a must and should be that way, I love CLEP, DSST & TECEP they are great. I did Sophia that was awesome way of teaching as well, looking at the milestones and stuff it helped me learn.
In my opinion a path in the right direction for SL would have been a close book exam or ensuring the reader goes through all pages and answer the questions in the tutorial slides like Sophia or TEEX I liked those ones they made sense I can still go with my own pace and learn.
My only grip is getting caught by surprise (btw the site is still not updated); Writing 10 essay giving summaries of each chapter and the main thing waiting for it to be manually corrected that will slow down the progress. This is not about making it hard its about adding fluff. The essay is only 100 points total so even if you bombed all of them its not going to effect the overall score.
May be I am getting paranoid here, but not sure how a teacher would like if I send him all 10 essay in a week, the topics of Sociology is not that complicated to need weeks specially for old folks like us plus I have already started sociology study using you tube videos last week so hope to finish this soon.
I know folks suggested I get a refund, but I am not running away will give it a good try. Who knows may be I will love it
