SL Macroeconomics--I had no idea it would be this hard.
#1
Hi All,
I am not accustomed to struggling academically, but Macro through Straighterline has just about kicked my fanny. I am not afraid of a challenge (I persevered through Shmoop's Modern European History, after all) but this course is in a class by itself. Every chapter was painful--this stuff just does not register easily and I've had to read and reread. I have been tearfully diligent in completing the UMPTEEN quizzes and checked the ebook for most of the answers, because I know the final is going to be rough. Two questions: 1) With 808 points, I will pass even if I earn no points on the proctored exam, right? 2) Is Micro going to be this difficult, and is it any easier to study with the REA guide and CLEP it?
Just for reference, I have taken Western Civ I and Intro to Nutrition with SL, so it's not the format that disagrees with me. I really enjoyed SL until this.
If anyone is wondering why I am torturing myself...yes, both Macro and Micro are requirements. I want to get Micro out of the way ASAP; there will be no peace until Econ is behind me.
Thanks for letting me vent. The general population doesn't understand what we go through! :willynilly:

I hated it too. Then again, I didn't like it in any flavor it came in. (I tried several course options before settling on SL.)

The 9,845 quizzes did not help matters, that's for sure.

This guy's YouTube channel has good explanations; I thought they came in handy whenever I got stuck. https://www.youtube.com/user/ACDCLeadership/featured

I hope I won't step on InstantCert's toes by posting this. I don't believe it will, because this guy is more about explaining and clarifying concepts vs. study/test prep.

Mirco & Macro through StraighterLine has been written about several times in this forum. You are not alone, as there have been several who share your pain. With all courses in Straighterline, your cut score is 700/Pass and for the courses that allow the opportunity to score that/700 and more in the exam prior to the final, you are correct that a failing final would still secure a pass. If you have scored over 800 prior to the final, you should expect to have a decent score in the finals. For the most part, both Micro & Macro finals mirror the structure of the lessons and exam(s)/midterm.

Both courses are considerably harder than probably the easiest course at StraighterLine Nutrition (Personal Finance close second) & Western Civ, so I am not surprised this course has knocked you on your tail a little. Buckle down and just keep plugging away to secure those credits.

You passed 108 points ago. Wink

I hope this helps you relax a bit- you need 92 points to earn an A in the class. An A that no one will ever see. Or, you can randomly click answers on your final, finish in 6 minutes and take the B. (That no one will see).

For the four courses I did through SL I also had passed before the final. This allowed me to do the finals without studying anything and just going by memory. I scored above 55% on all four finals and even got an 80% on one. I would guess you will score in the 60s at least just going by what you will remember. Take the final, move on, and let your brain relax for a day or two. Good job!

I feel you. I'm taking my arch-nemesis, Microeconomics now, and it sucks. I keep track of where I'm at with each module, and just praying I get to a decent score so I don't have to worry about the stupid final. The number of quizzes is ridiculous, but I've also tried it through JumpCourse, and it was just as bad, so I just decided to buckle down and finish this stupid course through SL. UGH! banghead

I didn't think the TECEP for Microeconomics was all that bad, and I only used the IC flashcards for the CLEP. I did, however, take AP economics in high school, so maybe this is just an easy subject for me.

Keep pushing forward, you're almost there. Some SL courses seem harder than others, but you'll get through them.
I would remain calm and focused, just "get it done" attitude until the course and finals are finished. Good luck!

Relax a bit, indeed! Knowing I'll pass regardless of how I do on the final has helped me wind down significantly. I tend to be the type who wants the A no one will ever see...I'll let you know how it goes!

I followed the link to your blog. Wow. What a tremendous resource!
