SDC Psych Courses-Advice Please
#1
Hey again all,

I have a quick question regarding several SDC Psych tests. I recently completed a bachelors in general management
through TESU, and am actually going to complete a BA in Psych through them as well. However, they make returning students seeking a 2nd degree wait till their 1st degree is conferred before earning credit towards the 2nd degree. Anyway, that is besides the point. I will be taking 5 SDC tests within the next 2 weeks that I would like your opinion on:

1. Ethics in the Social Sciences
2. History and Systems of Psychology
3. Physiological Psychology
4. Research Methods in Psychology
5. Industrial and Organizational Psychology

I am simply seeking info on the degree of difficulty on these tests. If you have taken one of these, please let me know how it went. I am guessing that, if it is like other SDC courses, they probably aren't too terrible, but I thought that I would ask anyway. As always, thanks for everyone's invaluable input! It always helps.

Side Note: If anyone is seeking information regarding Psych courses or TESU BA in Psych, message me and I will give you some updated info regarding this degree and it's associated requirements.

I only took the last two you listed through SDC a couple years ago and they were simple and straightforward.

I did research methods in about 5 days and I/O in about three. I had a lot of downtime at work back then and would listen to the videos on 1.5x or 2x speed.

Have you learned something new about changes to the degree requirements?

Hi. I want to earn my BA Psych Degree at TESU. I would like to know of any changes in policy there. I am just beginning with earning credits online.

Hope you are considering SOCSCI 108 for Ethics? Apparently, that works well for all behavioral sciences. And Aleks offers Statistics for Behavioral Sciences. Have you done that?

The ALEKs stats for behavior science just transfers in as regular old stats.

I took a number of Psych courses through SDC. I found them all to be straightforward and fairly easy. History and Systems was a slog though, and this is coming from someone who loves history courses!

Everything is manageable. I'm (barely) on schedule to graduate in December from TESU with a degree in Psychology. If I can assist in any way, please feel free to reach out to me via PM.

True, but regular old stats is all that is needed for the BA Pysch

Hi Supermind,

Your PM's are disabled, so I thought I'd post my response to your query here. It might be helpful to others too.

---

Happy to help if I can, though if there have been recent changes, I may not be of as much help, since I'm on the 2017-18 catalog. Here's the Psych classes I've done through SDC:

TESU#     SDC#
PSY-237   PSY-104 Social Psychology (lower level)
PSY-400   PSY-312 History and Systems of Psychology
PSY-211   PSY-107 Life Span & Developmental Psychology
PSY-350   PSY-106 Abnormal Psychology
SOS-216   SOS-108 Ethics in the Social Sciences

Several of the other classes that are needed (Intro to Psych, Psychophysiology, etc.) I did elsewhere, but they are also available on SDC now.

You need statistics for this degree, and that was traditionally my most difficult class. I think the ALEKS class is available as a course equivalent again, and if you struggle with math at all, I'd HIGHLY recommend taking it through ALEKS. No way I ever pass that class without utilizing the advantages that their platform provides.

TESU is unique in that their on-site Social Psych course is 6 units. I've managed to clear this obstacle by taking SDC's Psych 104 as a "lower level" equivalent, and I'll be taking UExcel's Psych 325X as an "upper level" equivalent. The nice thing is that SDC offers a study plan for the UExcel class, which is basically the Psych 104 coursework. (I think SDC based their class on UExcel, but TESU views them as two separate courses.)

The Capstone is what you make of it. I think the only reason I'm really having a hard time is because I haven't written a research paper in over 25 years. Smile It's no cakewalk, but it's by no means impossible either. Each part of the paper is broken down into reasonable parts. If you stay on top of it and on schedule, there's no reason why you shouldn't end up with a good grade. Smile

One final piece of advice, but take this one with a grain of salt - if you need a Communications class, take COM-120 though SDC. It's *very* short, quick and easy, and according to my adviser (here's the grain of salt part), TESU will accept it for the GE requirement. That being said, that class is part of my next round of course evaluations by TESU, so it hasn't been posted to my TESU record yet. I'll confirm if/when they do.

That's probably plenty for now. Big Grin I'm not sure my specific plan will be that helpful, since I had already completed 70 brick and mortar units before I started online. However, if you have any questions about setting up a plan, and course equivalencies as you go along, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

Thank you for all this info. I will begin my 'conquest of Everest' and let you know how it goes. Thanks for letting me know about the disabled PMs. I wasn't aware one needs to enable the PMs. I have done so now.
