Looking for feedback or if anyone has taken a programming class there. Looking at possibly taking Visual Basic Programming for the programming requirement at TESU for CIS. The course seems like a steal at $215. Just wondering if anyone has taken a programming class from there? I was considering a Python class as I have heard it's more fun and easier to learn from AMU, but it's 750. However I might take the Systems Analysis class from there if I don't feel I can pass the CSU Global CBE. I have no prior IT knowledge but hoping to complete this degree by the March graduation as then cross-train into the IT field of the Air Guard.

I heard the Intro to Programming course at Penn Foster is easy. It'll cost $299. CSU Global also has a CBE for Basic Programming (Java), but it covers a lot of stuff.

Sanatone do you know if the Intro to Programming course from PF fits the programming requirement for TESU? I assume it does or you wouldn't have mentioned it.

Yes, it does. TESU confirmed it in an email where I was arguing with them about courses I transferred from a community college.

Seems that the course is only 2 credits, what a bummer. I already have two 2 credit classes on my transcript and it just adds to something somewhere else. I wonder how often they allow this 2 credit exception?

They may not give a credit exception if it's your AOS - is this a BSBA in CIS? If not, and you just want to take the course, it will fit into almost any degree plan in different places. You don't need an exception to take a 3cr course if it's not a requirement.

Yes it would be for the Programming requirement in the BSBA CIS.

My guess is they won't give the waiver since it's a requirement in your AOS - but it can't hurt to ask.

You can get an exception for the programming requirement and it's not hard to get. But you must make up the missing credit in your AOS. You can't borrow excess credits from the core, GE, or free electives since you are short in the AOS section. So you wouldn't be able to take UL accounting to get around the exception for the CIS. Ideally, you'd have a single 4-credit CIS course or two 2-credit CIS courses already to pair up the exception with this 2-credit programming course.
I don't think anyone has ever suggested you will get an exception for being short in your AOS.

Do you plan to program at any point in the future? If so, what type of application?
I ask this, because most developers I've worked with would cringe if you suggested using VB for a production application. I don't believe I've ever seen it used for a web enabled application that has made it to a production environment. With that being said, I loved learning the language and it taught me some of the basics of programming without all the crazy syntax and detail related requirements of other languages.
I would say python has a lot more utility in the workplace and will gain more respect than VB. Even if you don't intend to become a developer, python is becoming the defacto standard for scientific programming.
If you're just checking boxes for degree requirements, VB will be easier to learn than most languages IMHO.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.
