Requesting Feedback on Best Degree Path
#1
Hello! I've been reading the forum for a few weeks and tentatively decided to pursue a psych degree at UMPI. I'm concerned about how I will be able to complete the practicum. Anyway, I'm open to all suggestions on what I should do. Thank you for any help you can provide!

Your Location: Tennessee
Your Age: 52
What kind of degree do you want?: Would like Psych degree as it’s what I was trying to acquire during my first college career. Am open to a different degree if I can get it sooner and pursue either bachelor’s or master’s in Psych after earning first bachelors. No definite career goals – would possibly pursue counseling or social work position. Mainly want to complete degree for personal satisfaction.

I have had credits evaluated by UMPI and am signed up to begin classes there 3/12.
I have been working on completing Gen Ed requirements through Sophia. Sociology will satisfy the last required Gen Ed.

Current Regional Accredited Credits:

Any certifications or military experience? N/A

Budget: Flexible, I can spend up to 5K per semester, but would prefer not to
Commitments: Spouse and adult children (kids away at college), full-time job
Dedicated time to study: I can study at least 3 hours per weeknight and a minimum of 15 hours combined on weekends. Weekly total of approx 30 hours.
Timeline: Honestly, would like to finish a bachelor’s by June 1 if possible.

@turnitloud, Welcome to the board, that's a great addendum and template with an educational end goal! You can get this done faster by doing the BLS with a minor offered by YourPace, and add an additional, Psych Minor (or just leave it with the Psych minor). This will cost about $3500 if you get it done in 2 sessions, you can then ladder up to the Walden MS Psych, if you can get it done in 1 term (6 months) for roughly $6K, you can lastly join the PSY CHI Society, in total, that's going to cost roughly $10K. It's very similar to what I recommended Supermind a few years ago, except at the time, it was TESU BALS Psych instead as UMPI wasn't available...

Thank you so much for such a quick response. I had done some research, but I knew I could get better advice from you. Do you recommend I keep plugging away at Sophia credits until I get to 90?

Yes, you have about 76 credits, so you can take at least 14 more from Sophia.org, I highly suggest you find which particular minor you're looking at and create a spreadsheet with the recommended classes for UMPI BLS degree of your choice, plug in the gen eds, and the rest can be put into your electives: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:UMPI
