I can't think of any industry where people don't get burned out. Most people will change jobs when that happens, it's totally normal.
My husband has kept the same job title and just moved to another position multiple times because he just gets tired of the same job day after day, year after year. I have never worked somewhere for more than 3 years because I feel like I'm going to lose my mind if I have to do the same thing for one more day after a while, and I'm not in the IT field. Everyone I know gets tired of their job at some point, especially if there's no upward or lateral mobility. My mom worked at AT&T for 30 years, and never had the same job with the same boss for more than a couple of years.

agreed. your husband changing jobs often makes sense, particularly from an IT perspective. Working with the same systems day after day means there's no challenge anymore. And the challenge is the fun part of IT. As you said, that's certainly not limited to IT work, but it might be exaggerated in this field. The challenge is what draws many of us here.

True burnout happens in fields such as social work, corrections, and law enforcement. Many people exit those fields permanently due to stress, relatively low pay, and the way people treat you.

true, this is a particular kind of burnout that i can't even pretend to have equivalent experience with.

True - there's probably a difference between burnout and boredom. I think nursing, EMT, Air Traffic Controllers - also have burnout.

Most definitely. Air traffic control is a very high-paying job, especially considering the relatively low amount of education required, but it is not a desirable job for most. FAA won't even hire people over the age of 31. A few EMTs who worked for Austin Travis County EMS committed suicide a couple of years ago, and it's believed that it was due to the mandatory overtime.

I'll second indeed. My wife had a hard time finding work after completing her phlebotomy program. She started receiving job offers by email daily and this week began at the red cross.
I am on the other hand on Monster and I get calls and emails all the time from Geico.
