Which DSSTs give letter grades for Excelsior? I thought they switched to all pass/fail credits.

Right now, Excelsior gives letter grades for all Dantes exams scored on the 2-digit system. The score-grade equivalents vary depending on the test, but generally speaking, a score in the mid-50s gets you an A. When Prometric refreshes a Dantes exam, the scoring system changes from 2-digit to 3-digit. I don't know why Excelsior doesn't re-evaluate the exam to set new cut scores, unless they'd prefer we paid them to take letter-graded ECEs instead. (ya think?)

BSLS Excelsior College, conferred 9-09 started MS in Instructional Design program, Spring 2010 April 4 2009 through July 6 2009: 1 GRE subject exam + 1 Penn Foster credit + 11 DANTES exams = 61 credits. Average per-credit cost = $23.44. "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." (Maria Robinson)

Yah, I do wonder if they realize how "refreshed" sounds (i.e. "bad") to those of us in the know. Take them while you can get them.

Oh, so how do we know what constitutes an A? I was under the impression that all of the tests (CLEP and DSSTs) were just pass/fail. I took Principles of Supervision and got a 53/46. Does anyone know what letter grade that would be? I am going to have to retake it if that is not an A.

Download the 2009 version of Excelsior's "Student Guide to Credit by Exam at Excelsior College & The Assessment Catalog" from their publications page (login not required). Section 3 of the publication lists the CLEPs and DSSTs scores required for credit. For the DSSTs that get letter grades, there's a breakdown of the scores required for C's, B's, and A's. As an example, the scores required for DSST General Anthropology are 47 for a C, 50 for a B, and 55 for an A. For Principles of Supervision, it's 46/48/51 - so your score of 53 would be an A at Excelsior (and a Pass credit anywhere else). (FIXED: because I really do know the difference between refreshed and non-refreshed, oops... )

Thank you! I was worried that it might ruin my 4.0, but since it is an A, there is nothing to fear.
