My fail on the DSST Algebra is going to cost me BIG. I was told by an advisor at Excelsior that the only way to remove the grade is to
re-take the same exam. If I take another algebra or quantitative required course it will not count to remove the grade.
I was hoping to finish my degree requirements by the end of February but I have to wait 6 months to re-take the DSST algebra or take another test and let that sink my GPA as a failing grade. The advisor suggested that I request a waiver from DSST to take the exam sooner. Has anyone ever done that?

It would seem to reason that an approved Algebra course would also serve to replace the bombed exam since the credit would be applied to the same requirement.
Have you asked about this specifically?

Yes, I did. The answer was that it has to be the exact same test. I'm on hold right now with them. I have decided (unless the advisor says otherwise) that even with a fail, I still have a 3.58 GPA and I might just deal with it so I can finish hopefully according to my testing plan at the end of February. (I can not wait 6 months) If I can keep the majority of my grades as A's, then I will still graduate cum laude. I've ordered the college math books to study from and with IC, hope to take the test in about 10 days. I do have the algebra piece probably well covered for the college math!

Double confirmed. The only thing you can do is to take the exact same exam to remove the grade. I also confirmed that I can take college math, and as long as my grades remain high, I can still graduate with honors. So I'm just going to take the fail and move on.

Can you take the test after you graduate and have it posted to your transcript??????

I asked about that as well, and I was told that I could not. Once I graduate, it will remain. There will be no way to replace it.

I can see them counting a failed ECE exam, its their exam program, but I don't understand their policy on posting a FAILED DSST???? If this is true then it really is from one extreme to the other.
To avoid this, on test day, could you have the grade sent nowhere ( or anywhere )besides to Excelsior when you took the test? Wait and confirmed that you passed and THEN have the testing transcript sent to Excelsior. Would this work?

I think you would get into the whole ethics issue there. AND, I have very few testing locations to go to and they know me and they know where my test results go to. Since I am enrolled in Excelsior, it makes it even more of an issue, as I am confident it would be a possible reason to expel.

I respect the fact you are trying to do the right thing as you see it.
I am going to speak for myself when I say that my testing center has no business knowing where I do, or do not, have my scores sent.
Also, both transcript request forms from both CLEP and DSST allows you the choice to suppress grades, and pick which grade(s) are sent to the college(s) of your choice.
I do not think that exercising this option would violate any Excelsior policy.

I agree. You can have the grades sent to Thomas edison first and then if you pass with a good score, can fill out the form to have your DSST transcript sent to Excelsior. No ethics issue there, unless you are just looking to punish yourself for doing poorly.
Just my 2 cents.
