Does anyone know for sure if Excelsior accepts both DSST Financial Accounting and CLEP Financial Accounting for the Financial Accounting requirement. I am assuming so, but I wanted to check and make sure...
This test is really bogging me down and slowing my progress. This stuff is not sinking in and I am starting to get discouraged. I am thinking of just taking one of the exams tomorrow and if I fail it, then I will always have the other test as a backup plan. What do you guys think???

Try taking the clep practice exam and see how you do. I felt the same way and just went and took it and just squeeked by, so I can't recommend it.

Hey BMills,
It's Marshall. I don't know much about Excelsior and your question so I apologize for not being of any use to you on this issue. However, after reading your post I felt obligated as a fellow IC'er to give you a hand up!
Do not get discouraged. That's easy to do. What we here... are all on is the "road less traveled." Believe me...when it's all said and done, you will be thankful for all the pain you went through. That's what makes this all worthwhile.
I just thought I'd mention that to you...don't jump off the ledge. I don't know what resources you have been using thus far but maybe I can give you some advice on that if you haven't already done so. Check out your public library. Idiot's Guides and Dummies books are great resources. I have an accounting for dummies book, along with an accounting textbook (from the library), Barron's Business Review Book on Accounting, along with a few others. Check out the Standard Deviants Videos on Accounting also. If you must...contact your library or nearest school district to see if tutors are available. I personally have not begun to tackle this subject yet, but I will cross this bridge when I get to it. I just thought I'd gather the resource materials that I will need, so I will have them when the time comes (in about 3 months).
Bottom line is do what you have to do to survive. Don't go spending money on a CLEP test when you know in your heart that you are not ready. I understand your frustration trust me...and I'm also doing this for selfish reasons as well...I may need you to give me this very same pep talk when I'm trying to CLEP out of PRECALCULUS!!!!!!!(smile) I may need you to coax me down from a ledge!!!
I believe in you. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Your choice.
From a loyal degree seeker,

Thanks for the encouragement, this tends to be my pattern before every test, self-doubt, but this one feels especially scary, but I have not come close to failing yet, so I am going for it tomorrow at 11:30...say a little prayer for me and I will let you know how it comes out...
Thanks Again

The DSST financial accounting exam is listed in the credit by exam book. I will tell you I was in the same position in January and had the same back up plan as you. I didn't mean to discourage you but tell you that it is scary taking an exam you don't feel well prepared for, this was my scariest exam ever. I did feel better after taking the practice tests so that might make you feel better as well.

I am going to take the DSST exam with hopes that I can reason my way through 4 options better than 5. Do you happen to have the DSST practice material for this exam, or does anyone know where I can get it?
Thanks

Its in the dsst exam book that is in the newbie info section but here is a link where you can download this. I decided against the dsst because I couldn't find anyone who had taken it and was unsure what it was like.
