Did they let you start the capstone? How is that going? Did you finish the other courses?
I finished the last course module on June 20, a little over a month from end of term.
They did allow me to start the Capstone as there is a live seminar every week of the 10-week term. I was able to do course modules and the Capstone in parallel.
The Capstone consists of 10 Units, one per week. Each weekly unit involves assignments, a live seminar and participation in discussion forums.
As of now, 6 Capstone units are complete with 4 more to go. Almost there!
Great job! Could you give an idea of what the Capstone Units are like? What topics do you go through?
It's a 10-week individual project, one unit per week. You choose from a selection of IT scenarios related to the program. Could be building a website or expanding a computer network, etc. Each week you have a live seminar, participate in mandatory online discussions and submit assignments. The assignments are standard project management documents such as Project Charter, WBS, etc. The assignments could be in Word, Excel, PowerPoint or even an audio recording. The assignments follow the lifecycle of a project, so you start with a project charter and end with a project archive. I found it very useful and relevant. If you know Project Management, then it will come easier to you. Hope that helps. What will your total cost be?
Two 10-week terms at Purdue Global - approx. $2900 per term. Probably spent $1,000 or less on Sophia and Study.com.
<$7,000 overall...
Purdue Global, BS IT
Method:
- Sophia (13 courses)
- Study.com (5 courses)
- W3Schools (PHP Certification)
- Purdue Global ExcelTrack (2 terms)

For the 10 week Capstone term did you get the discounted ExcelTrack tuition or were you hit with the regular PUG tuition? My husband was hit with the regular PUG tuition and it was more than the ExcelTrack tuition.

Both terms were ExcelTrack tuition. It's worth remembering that I had Capstone + ExcelTrack courses in the second term.

Interesting. I really wonder why you were allowed the Capstone with a course. That's against PUG's policy. It's so weird how he wasn't allowed to do this.

I only had one module from Course #1 and two modules from a Course #2 left.
I had no courses that had not started. Not sure if that is a factor.

He wasn't allowed to have any other modules with his Capstone. Every single course had to be 100% completed. He was told they don't make any exceptions with the Capstone. I wonder if it was just someone being a tool in his department. He did the Analytics ExcelTrack bachelor's degree. There were few students in most of his courses. There were 4 people in his Capstone and he was the only one who completed all of the assignments. He doesn't know if anyone else passed it because they were missing so much work.

According to a Reddit poster, this person claimed that " Normally they only allow 1-2 classes to be taken with the Capstone." Though you could petition and in this poster's case were able to do 4 courses with the capstone. So knowing what the rules are and advocating for yourself is key.
"I was able to complete 53 units my first term and the last 29 in my second term. According to my advisor, the average is 15-20 units, and the highest she had ever seen was around 60 units."
If you follow the IT Degree plan, 5 courses or 27 units would be the target to do in the 1st term if you were trying to finish in only 2 terms. I would suggest maxing out transfer credits to make it as easy as possible to finish the degree.
In Clockhammer's case, there were 2 full courses left plus 3 modules left on 2 other courses. (17 units) I'm guessing that was close enough where a petition wasn't needed.
It is a bit of a stretch to give advice on a school I have never been to myself. I'm relying on student reports to make these suggestions which I hope are helpful.
BTW, I added Cybersecurity, Analytics, and Criminal Justice degree plans

Oh nice, yeah that is pretty cool that it's an industry relevant project, very much in my wheelhouse. Thanks for all your info! Really helps us get a good idea of what to expect.

Thanks for posting the PUG degree plans. I saw you suggest SDC political science for social science requirement. I asked to an Advisor on the PUG website chat (I'm not a student tho), PUG social science requirement can also be fulfilled from Sophia, he said the two commonly used for SS req. from sophia are "intro to psychology" or "intro to sociology"
