Actually, this statement refers to the amount of time you have after you pay for the exam to take it. You register for the exam and practice exam then pay. You will have access to the practice exam within usually a day. I usually wait 2 days after payment to try to schedule the exam. Pearson Vue gets very busy and will book up quickly, so I recommend you schedule the exam right away. Just book it out as far you think you will need. You can always change it if you need to. The practice exams are worth the $65. I used them for several exams and found them extremely helpful. All of this info is directly related to the Excelsior exams. For the DSST and CLEP exams you can schedule these prior to payment. You pay the day of the exam. These are scheduled through various settings. Just go on their websites to find locations. These you usually have to schedule over the phone. I'm glad you are finding some helpful info here.

Now if they'll only come up with tests to get grad level credit..

Read the credit by examination publication on the Excelsior website. It will show you where each CLEP/DSST/ECE fall as far as credit and they also show you which exams receive letter grades and what the cut-off scores are for each grade. It is invaluable while testing out! There are a ton of great people here who will gladly hlep, so don't hesitate to post if you have a question. Good luck!

you have been given some great advice so far.

For accredited Nursing pr-reqs with a lab try Clovis Community College and New Mexico Junior College they are completely online and priced right ! EC lets you test out of A&P and Micro but those won't be accepted by most other Nursing schools.

The search feature will reveal alot of answere's for you.

Why are you needing to complete your degree prior to starting RN school ? Most RN programs are CC oriented and a BSLS degree is definantly not a requirement.

Welcome to the forum!

Just want to be sure you know a couple of things:

If you were not enrolled by Sept 1st of this year, you will not be allowed to take the GRE for credit at Excelsior. Charter Oak and Empire State may still be options.

All Bachelor's degrees in the school of Liberal Arts at Excelsior require a 15-week capstone course, if you were not enrolled by July 1st of this year.

If you need a lot of science credits, be sure to give yourself enough time to learn the material.

Within 1 hour of my home, all of the CC based RN programs are extremely full and based upon a random lottery, not wait list. Therefore, there are no guarantees whether you'll get in, once your prereqs are complete.

While I was willing to concede that risk, by faith, the other challenge that I recently have run into is that fact that the classes fill within days and teachers have been increasingly reluctant to allow students to even try to add. In the past, I've always been willing to try to "add" by doing all work thru the 2 week add period. Well, I recently ran into a situation in which a professor refused to even consider allowing anyone to add. The Dean didn't care. No-one did.

Because all the classes are always filled within days of enrollment opening, I've been unable to take any classes since August. This sucks, since you can't take A&P1 until after A&P2.

My local state college is very proud of the fact that, since their program is also impacted, they have been accepting students with an average GPA of 3.9 for the last several semesters. They also make you sign a waiver that you didn't take any science prereqs online. :mad: So, if I take any online prereqs, all my eggs are in this private school's basket.

My only options outside of the state college and the JC are 1. Western Career College/Tech School which costs ~$20K for an LVN + another ~$20K for an LVN-RN bridge or a private nursing school which only enrolls 2nd Bachelor's candidates. I'm going for the 2nd Bachelor's Degree program.

I'm trying so hard to stay positive about this process, but it is very frustrating, to say the least.

I am running inti problems in MJ with teacher Certification. Sometimes the arbtrary rules just get frustrating.

I did take an ECE exam and what I understood is once you enroll and pay for an exam you can schedule it immediately. Some testing centers have very limited testing dates available. The new wording was just to say once you did register you need to take the exam with in 6 months or lose your payment. I also used the practice exam and found it very useful, that is now only available 4 3 months it used to be available longer once you paid for it.

I am very interested in your experiences at WGU. I will be applying to them for a MAT soon. It is the quickest cheapest route to a teching license for me in NJ. I don't care if I get all B's I am just curious how they do that is that like their eqivalent of pass/ fail? How hard were the classes and how quickly could you test out.

I really am a vintage mother my oldest is older then you and my youngest just turned 21. I need to get this schooling done before I become a vintage grandmother.

I really loved WGU. It was really good for me, since I felt like I knew a lot of things already, but my transcripts didn't really reflect it, KWIM? I gained a lot of confidence in myself and my abilities going there, I was able to pass 6 units of college math after avoiding math for many years of college, and my mentor (like a guidance counselor) was so supportive. I passed my cbest (CA's teaching credential pre-test) with flying colors while enrolled there.

I set up a system in which I took all of the classes I could test out of 1st and then tried tackling the "class-based" work, which was mostly still independently based to a certain extent. The "B" average thing was fine with me, too. Pass = B. Fail = no credit. It just won't work too well for Nursing School. It doesn't work well for many graduate school programs, that are competitive. If you are going after a teaching credential, you can look at the programs you're interested in to see if they require a minimum GPA or if it is competitive. My local state college requires a 3.0 to get into their credential program, so WGU would have been fine if I still wanted to pursue it.

Plus, WGU is so cheap! It costs the same as the local state university, but you can complete more than 12-18 units for that price and no gas costs, no travel time. I loved WGU.
