Public Relations TECEP study resource
#1
I was trying to help my spouse in locating a study resource for the Public Relations TECEP. I found the following companion site to the recommended text:

Cutlip Bridge Page

Hopefully this is helpful to some of you.

PrLoko-isms
Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

In addition to Prioko's link, below are a few additional helpful resources. My method was to use an older text and complement with the most recent free text companion website(s).

BTW, I've been told the IC flashcards are great for this exam.

I just took this one and passed. Read through all of Effective Public Relations Eighth Edition. The first couple hundred pages were boring and I felt like the author was just writing stuff that was irrelevant. The second half of book got better. I felt like there were a significant amount of questions that could only be known by having read it in the middle of some non-highlighted passages unfortunately. I tried to breeze through or ignore all of the case studies or real life examples unless they were mentioned multiple times and I think that worked to my advantage.

I started to read the textbook, but it was not a great one, very tedious. So I switched to IC, and studied the flashcards. i was at 100% for a bunch of the modules, and had gone through the rest of the modules a bunch of times. It was close to the deadline, and I was sick as a dog, but had to take the exam anyway - so I did, and got a 70%. If I had to do it over again, i would just go with IC and skip the textbook entirely. But, I didn't care how I did, I just needed the pass.

I paid for the Oct. COM-210 TECEP, but have decided not to go with a [second] AA in Communications after my AA.LS. I am now past the refund window, but don't need the TECEP for my BA.SS (I have over 150 credits as it is).

Any thoughts? Should I just ignore the PR TECEP and go with the NT on my transcript, or throw another $20 (that I don't really have available) into using IC to study and try to pass it?

You could call the testing department and explain you no longer need this exam for your degree. Ask if they could substitute for a different exam so you do not lose your investment. I would suggest MAT-105 or CIS-107, both could be completed with a quick brush up on general mathematics or intro to computing. Send me a PM if you decide to take an alternate exam. I might have materials on file you could use.

BTW, during my years at TESU, canceled exams were not listed on the formal transcript.
