I am 33 years old and have never taken a college class. I heard about the CLEP test and decided to start out by taking Educational Psychology. I have studied from the Pass your Class book and have been working on the Peterson's tests. Has anyone taken this CLEP and if so did the Peterson's practice tests help?

If this is going to be your first test I highly recommend you spend the $20 to join. Not only will the flashcards help, but the specific exam feedback could make all the difference

You can't go wrong listening to Linda!!!cheersmate
I took this test back in '08 and I used a textbook from my local library as well as IC.
If you haven't already done so...I would suggest you start with the Introductory Psychology CLEP first before you attempt the Educational Psychology one...but that's just my 2 cents.
Be sure to let us know how you do. WELCOME to INSTANTCERT!!!

Thank you Linda and Marshall for your warm welcome and replies. I am going to sign up for IC and as Linda suggests. I have a pretty good memory I just get nervous that I am not studying the right things.

Again, Welcome.
If this is the only psych class you are taking, it is more difficult, and I'm not familiar with "Pass Your Class" -- but others have commented on various subjects and they, overall, have mixed ratings -- some good but mostly not so much.
REA has a good review book which has practice tests and many libraries have this for you to borrow. If purchasing, I have not found the REA books with CD to be worth the extra money.
If this is not your only psych, cancel it and set it back on your calendar, as it is more difficult. Then take a look at other forum notes, as many have suggested taking certain tests in a certain sequence, as much of the material overlaps. For example, take Intro to Sociology, then Intro to Psych, as they overlap. Then there are others that build upon this material. I'm sorry, I can't remember the sequence, but I do know there is Human Growth and Development in there. Watch out as CLEPs are almost always counted as lower level and many colleges only give you a pass/fail and no grade. Some of the older DSST exams will give you a grade to include in a GPA, and a few of them are actually for upper level credits -- all of this depending on the particular college you are attending.
If this is the only psych course you are taking, make sure you know the material and check to see if there is a practice Peterson's exam available to you. Again, there is information on the forum with a link to free Peterson's that you can check out.
If taking Ed. Psych, you might want to consider taking Foundations of Education after, as they overlap a little bit.
Good luck and let us know how you do.

Well, I finally got up enough nerve to take this clep and got a 57. I was SO nervous as it was my first one so it was hard to concentrate. I should have done better if I wouldn't have let my nerves get the best of me...I am just glad that I passed my first one and now I have the confidence to do more!

The first is always the hardest. I know what you mean about nerves I do that sometimes. Now if I am getting to nervous I just sit back close my eyes and do some deep breathing. I make myself calm down before I go on. The 30-60 seconds or so I use for this is easily made up in the time I save. When I am nervous I can read the same question 5 times without noticing something like a big glaring capitalized EXCEPT.
Which exam is next on the agenda?

Don't worry about CLEP-ing nerves: you'll figure them out eventually. Great job on your pass! Education Psych is on my list...after Tech Writing, Western Civ I & 2, and Intro to Psych - :willynilly:
