Welcome to the forum!
If you are not ready, consider rescheduling. Can you afford a few more days to study vs having to wait 6 months to retake the exam? As far as I know members of the military can set up a free account here for practice exams: DANTES Prep (Civilians can set up a free account here: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...ement.html) I don't think they are allowed to discuss the topic of their speech.

Nap,
I see you took College Math. How was that test? Was it a CLEP or DSST. I have a tutor helping me prepare for the Business Math. I picked that test because I figured it was the easiest.

Hi KBnoweapons!
My favorite subject - thanks for asking! I took the College Math CLEP as my reward for taking A&I Lit (not my favorite subject). I posted my feedback here: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post75629 For me, studying meant just trying to refresh what I had learned in high school, and I enjoy doing math problems more than any other type of studying. If you are not as excited about math and need to learn the material, I would still recommend trying the College Math CLEP. The specific exam feedback section has lots of resource recommendations to use, which would probably be helpful for other math exams also. Also, be sure that Business Math will be applied as Math credit at your school. Excelsior apparently does not award math credit for Business Math: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post77763 I think being a math tutor would be a lot of fun. I hope it is working well for you. Having someone explain and show you how to do a problem can really help. Best wishes on your exam!

Thanks Nap! I forgot everything I've learned about math in high school, and I'm waaaaaaay up there in age so I'm going to need all the help I can get. I told my tutor not to laugh at me because 1+1=2 and that's as high as I can go. Of course, he laughed because he knew I was acting like a drama queen.
My advisor told me that the DSST Business Math would be the easiest test to take so that's why I decided to go for it. I'm taking Principles of Public Speaking next week. I asked the guy who administers the test if you get an automatic fail for passing out. He told me yes. LOL I get so nervous right before I test.

It sounds like you have found the best option for yourself for math. ALEKS might be another possibility, but again that would depend on your school.

LOL I get so nervous right before I test. That's funny! I had not considered that possibility. I hope it does not happen to you or anyone else. Being nervous is normal, but I hope you will have a successful experience with this exam.

NAP, I'm testing tomorrow at a totally different location. I was going to travel to a base which is 1.5 hours from my house to take the Principles of Public Speaking test, because I'm Navy Reserve and wouldn't have to pay for the test. But then I thought, by the time I drive down there and back, I could have just paid the money and been done with it. So needless to say, I've decided to test at a school close to my house so I can save time. Both proctors I talked to were helpful, as far as telling me what to expect and not to be nervous. I think I'm going to do fine. I will let you know how it went. ![]()

KBnoweapons Wrote:NAP, Sounds like a good plan. It will make tomorrow a lot easier for you. Try to relax and get a good night's sleep tonight. I also try to eat something the day of an exam that I know will settle in my nervous stomach. You've prepared. Keep your confidence. Yes, I'd like to know how it goes.

I actually got a topic I practiced!!!!! As soon as the proctor gave me the sheet showing my topic, I started shaking. LOL - He told me I had 10 minutes to prepare, handed me several sheets of paper, and I started writing fast. I wrote out my entire speech. The written part wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. There were tricky questions, but I think I did enough to pass. How many questions can you get wrong on the written part; do you know?

KBnoweapons Wrote:Nap, I'm so glad you think it went well. Having practiced the topic already must have helped a lot. And you did not faint! That was a success, too. I have considered taking this exam, but I do not know how the scoring works, since it is not just questions and there is an extra speech section. I have also read that the speech can be submitted for re-evaluation, so this first round of scoring is not necessarily the final word. Is the speech part audio or video taped? How long did they say it takes to receive a score? Waiting for a score can be very hard. (I've been waiting 2 weeks for my latest DSST exam score.) If you have another test to study for, that helps to keep your mind off of the waiting and wondering.
