Principles of Finance DSST Question
#1
Hi, everyone I am preparing for this test.
The feedback forum says that IC is not enough. Has anyone taken this test and use other materials? Has anyone bought textbook recommended by the official site? What is your though?

Thanks in advance for your input

I managed to pass this with only instantcert and a financial calculator. I only got a 422 but that is good enough. If you decide to depend on a financial calculator like me than be sure you know how to use it and that the testing center will let you. The one part of the test I was not prepared for was bonds.

This test draws on information that is covered in financial accounting and microeconomics so if you are not familiar with those than study the flash cards for those tests as well.

Hi there. TI BA II PLUSâ„¢ PROFESSIONAL - Atomic Learning is a site that can give you instructions on the BA II calculator. However, I also had to supplement with some youtube video instructions as I'm not very good at reading directions.

Vicky, I think I mentioned to you that Finance was the only test that brought me to tears while studying and I don't want to scare you. Sad It's tough, but I think it's because I am not a finance-minded person. These concepts just don't come easily to me. I also think that you may see a few more responses, but for the most part this is not a test someone would take unless they absolutely HAD to... so probably only business/accounting/finance majors would have taken this.

@Quietmoment88. If you're an IC subscriber, you'll have access to the specific forum feedback. The thread about Principles of Finance there is excellent and lots of links, suggested study topics, and even study guides. It's a wealth of information and I think that someone could pass the test just reading through that thread and learning about the concepts that people have discussed.

I did use IC for Finance and I recommend it as usual. However, since Finance can be a difficult, it may not be quite as easy to learn from just reading IC and googling the topics in the cards. MBAbullshit.com was the site that best helped me supplement IC the most. LOL every time I've mentioned that site name, I feel the need to apologize.. sorry it's a cheesy name, but this guy is good and could probably teach Finance to a second grader - yes he makes it sound that simple.

As burb mentioned, MBAbullshit.com is a great site to grasp some of the concepts. If you learn well from books, the Baron's Finance book by Gropelli is great. Only read the applicable chapters though. The book has enough to get you through two semesters of graduate level finance (which i just used it for), so you only need to mark down and read the stuff that pertains. Also, I have found Khan academy to be helpful. Look him up on Google or YouTube. Similar to mba-bs, its good for getting the concepts down.

Also, there have been mixed reviews about testing centers allowing the use of calculators. Many have allowed it, but the test does say that only "four function" calculators are allowed. That technically disallows the financial calculators, but again many test centers, including mine, allowed a financial calculator which will save you a ton of time. I would be prepared just in case. While this is a tougher exam, it is certainly doable with some study and prep. Best of luck!
