Principles of Finance Alternative??
#1
Hey guys,

I need to fulfill Business Finance for my degree at a local university, and I am told that Principles of Finance DSST will cover it. I know this test is horribly difficult, and I am wondering if there are any alternatives out there on the chance that I fail this test? Also, does anyone know roughly what percentage I need to get to pass? I know this is a refreshed exam so whatever passing score becomes a 400 but I really would like a number to shoot for. I have alot depending on this class as it could save me months of time and a little over a thousand dollars which I am not for sure I can afford.

Also, Personal Finance will definitely not cover it. It must be Business Finance (hence why Principles of Finance was allowed).

Thanks

vpbpllc,

Welcome to the forums. I can't say off the top of my head I know of any alternative to FIN 301 (Principles of Finance) other then an actual course. As for a percentage, you'll need 52-55% correct on the exam to pass. You can check out this pdf put out by Prometric on DSST scoring to verify it.
This is the last DSST I have to take and will be tackling it myself shortly. Don't let the fact that it has a bad reputation scare you away... all that means is that you have to really take your time and study for this one. There is no such thing as an "easy" test and a "hard" test... most any test will be harder if you haven't studied for it and every test you study for will be easier. Hang in there and you can do it.
Best of luck to you.

You can try this course through KCTCS:

BAS 212 - Introduction to Financial Management

Yeah, it's not at the 300 level but some schools might count this one as being equivalent and let you transfer it in. Just check with your school FIRST.

I sympathize with your pain because I'm going to try the DSST exam myself. Ick. I've already ordered the Standard Deviants DVD series on Finance to brush up. Got 'em used and therefore cheap at least through Amazon. Not looking forward to this exam...

I've heard it's a tough exam, but you only need just over 50%. If you're disciplined, and really study on a schedule, covering all the material, you essentially can't fail any exam. That's what I think.
