Does any one know of any universities around the world that are like WGU and other competency based schools?
Nothing is coming up for me in the search engine but I'm sure there must be some other country that is attempting this model.
Is the USA the pioneer in CBE?

Have you looked at UMPI or NAU?
https://www.umpi.edu/academics/# (Select “YourPace”)
https://nau.edu/online/competency-based-online-degrees/
They are in the US, but might take students outside the US

Competency Based Education isn't really all that new, think of it as the newer form of correspondence school (gasp, that was when they mail textbooks and assignments), I think there are many out there in the EU, most of them are similar to top up degrees.

Yeah, I've checked out all the U.S. schools that are similar. I'm actually in the U.S. but I'm wondering if there are any similar schools outside of the U.S. Now would be a good time or perhaps last year was a better time to take advantage of them online.

I didn't know that correspondence schools existed. lol
What do you mean by top up degrees? That's the first time I hear that as well.

It depends on what kind of degree you're going for. There are several CBE schools I can think of off the top of my head but different schools have different programs, so it depends what program you're going for. Also, I think there was a thread posted here in the past that lists all the major CBE programs out there.

Generally speaking, each school that has a CBE program has a different name for it - so it's going to be more difficult to search for, unfortuately.

I am not sure how old you are, but I do remember the International Correspondence Schools with the Commercials with Sally Struthers. This may jog your memory... https://youtu.be/Fj23I8hgj28

Yes, I've seen a section of this page with all the major CBE programs in the United States, but I haven't seen any examples of universities located outside of the U.S. using this model.
I'm interested in Bachelor's and Masters just like WGU and a few others offer here in the U.S.
I use WGU as an example because they allow you to pay for an all you can eat term rather than forcing you to wait years to finish what could take some months.

Yeah, that's true. Not to mention that when we add different languages into the mix it gets much tougher to find. In order to find such a thing one would have to know what CBE or similar is called in another country and not only that but in another language too. There's also no guarantee a search engine will easily index this and present it to you over other undesired search results.

Wow! That's amazing! I never knew this was a thing. In hindsight this looks very questionable and sketchy but one could argue that this was an earlier iteration of remote learning. That's a pioneer who unfortunately will not fully reap the results of their creative endeavor.

For the most part, the education systems outside of the US are VERY wary of the idea of "accelerating" your university experience. I am not saying that you absolutely will not find any but you probably will not. The closest that you'll find easily, IMO, are the Master's degree titulio propios from Spain. There is a good reason why international students that come to this board choose US schools and it's not (always) because US degrees are somehow more prestigious.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA
Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

UMPI absolutely accepts international students. They have a large program with Canada as well.
