PrereqCourses.com UIU Self-Paced Science Courses Under $700 Each

Upper Iowa University, a regionally accredited private nonprofit university in Iowa, brick-and-mortar with a long history in distance learning, is now offering online self-paced science courses at lower than normal prices to students paying directly through PrereqCourses.com.

This is the science version of how UIU offers accounting and related courses at lower than normal prices to students paying directly through cpacredits.com. The two dot-com sites share a nearly identical basic design, and though focused on science, the PrereqCourses site also offers accounting, business, and other non-science courses from the cpacredits course list.

These are the courses currently offered most likely to be useful in science degree plans or as health professions prerequisites. Courses vary between 3 and 4 semester credit hours each.

Some highlights about how these courses work:

The courses are completely asynchronous and fully on your own schedule. The self-paced courses are assignment-based, allowing students to manage their study schedule without time constraints. Assignments are open book and open internet, enabling students to access resources for completing their coursework effectively.

90% of your grade will come from your assignments. There is one final exam, worth about 10% of your grade.

[You will need to buy a textbook.] We suggest renting them for 3 months; it’s an inexpensive option.

Courses begin monthly. Students have 6 months to complete each course (the first assignment must be submitted within the first 2 months). Course is complete once all assignments have been submitted. If this time is exceeded, the student is automatically withdrawn. There is a $125 fee to re-enroll your course if you were withdrawn for not completing the first assignment within 60 days. There is a $150 fee to reinstate if you were withdrawn for exceeding 6 months.

There do not appear to be lab fees, physical lab kits, or additional paid lab software. A required textbook might entail an access key to the textbook’s online coursework platform.
