Posting full-sized pictures?

You actually said it very well too, earlier:

and in the space between the img tags goes the url of the image hosted elsewhere on the web.

This has to be the url of the underlying image itself; it can't be the url of a page that contains the image.

I found my puppy at http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/4...511504.jpg If you do a Google Image search for 'stop fighting meme puppy', you should see it. Click on the image and click on "View original image" (rather than "Visit page"), and that should send you directly to that underlying url. There should be nothing there but the image, and the URL will likely end in .jpg, .gif, .png, or some extension indicating an image file.

Edit: I haven't been kicked by something this simple since my now-husband tried to teach me to drive stickshift in the car he referred to as his baby. That car was evil - I'm convinced it was possessed by something from one of the lower circles - and this whole linking pictures biz... I don't know... Did I miss the step of needing to sign some unholy contract to make it work?

There. You just need the picture URL inside the "img" tags—don't put in the "URL" tags too.

But I didn't put URL tags. I just put the URL between the IMG tags, i.e. [img]copied URL[/img], and the forum scripting turned it into a URL. Do I leave off the http:// when dropping between the IMG tags?

Hubby heard me mumbling and wondered if it was the hosting site restricting that kind of linking? He suggested I use TinyPic, and I tried it quick... That worked, and the format from there was the same as the one I used, minus the http:// But you linked direct from that the original URL, right? I'm missing something obvious, aren't I...?

Yes, I used your original link. I always include the http:// in front of the image URL and never have trouble with it. Maybe sometimes DF hyperlinks things when we don't want it to. :confused:

Okay, here's Jennifer's picture:


The trick is to get the URL of the picture itself, not just the URL of the web page the picture is located at (which is actually what Jennifer pasted when she tried to post this pic earlier) The URL of the picture (the one you want) should end in ".jpg," ".jpeg," ".png," or ".gif." The URL you'd want for this picture, Jennifer, is http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3756/93018...ec9673.jpg. (I had to hunt around for it because I don't use Flickr, but it was under a "Grab the HTML/BBCode" tab. Click the little box with an arrow coming out of it that you'll find at the bottom of the picture to find that.) Paste that inside the [img][/img] tags, and you're good to go!
