Portfolio Assesment!!
#1
Hello All,

I recently submitted an application to my CC to receive credit for one of the courses required for my degree. The Course is Federal Income Tax. I was wondering if anyone had ever done a Life Experience Portfolio before and if they have any good tips in doing them. I plan to start building my portfolio in the next couple of days. I already requested a syllabus from one of the teachers at the school that does this class so I can directly relate my experience with the syllabus. Also I have requested letters from some of the bosses at work to submit with it. Any other tips or ideas would be greatly welcomed.

Check the PLA tips thread (also linked at the bottom of my signature). Just skip over the posts that argue about fees. There are solid tips in the beginning and at the end.

I didn't read through davewill's entire post, so I will just say that it might be directed more towards a specific school, and every school will have their own requirements. Make sure you talk to your school about that, rather than only relying on this post. Obviously, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the post you're directed to, just to double-check with your school before you turn your portfolio in. I've been to 2 schools who had the opposite views on PLA's - one who thought they were great and highly encouraged it, and one who made it damn near impossible to get the credit.

I agree that PLA requirements differ by school. I successfully completed a PLA for Organizational Behavior. The school sent me a syllabus for the course and I had to complete 6 major course assignments. 4/6 had to be writing intensive (5-10 pages each). Had to score 80 or above on each assignment to get credit.

That pretty much sounds like you took the class.

In a nut shell, yes. Only cost $100. Im not complaining. I had the option to substitute assignments with examples of real world application of the subject matter (training records, certificates, ect) but I found it easier to just do the assignments. Took me 6 days. I had 30 days but figured what the heck...
