I got some great info back regarding certification credit for Excelsior College
Quote:For the BMI program, there is only a 9 credit cap on Computer Application credits - via exam or otherwise. However, these credits are designated as introductory courses - Microsoft and Comptia would be classified as advanced, and not be included within this cap. Therefore, you will not be affected by this restriction.
For the BSL program, there is no credit cap for certification examinations.
Here is some more information regarding the current MCSE 2003+Security Track (notes are based on upgrading from MCSE NT4.0/2000)
Quote:Comptia Security + (this would be 2 UL credits)
70-290 Managing and Maintaining an MS Windows Server 2003 Environment 1 LL (no duplication)
70-291 Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining an MS Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure 1 LL (no duplication)
70-293 Planning and Maintaining an MS Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure 2 UL (no duplication)
70-294 Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining an MS Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure 3 UL (DUPLICATES YOUR CURRENT 70-219)*
70-297 Designing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory and Network Infrastructure 3 UL (ALSO DUPLICATES YOUR CURRENT 70-219)*
70-298 Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network 2 UL (no duplication)
70-299 Implementing and Administering Security in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network 2 UL (no duplication)
*These exams duplicate your 70-219 exam. Additionally, we can only take one of the two: Either 70-294 or 70-297 (same credit - 3UL). Either one of these, would then replace the 70-219 exam.
Replacement of exam due to retirement of certain exams in March 2008

Response from EC regarding the Oracle exams for the MIS requirements
Quote:Dear Chris,
The Oracle exams do not satisfy the required concentration subjects, they would be BMI electives.
Sincerely,
Sandy Perretta

Hi Sandy -
I noticed that Oracle exams are accepted for credit. I wanted to know if any of the Oracle exams would satisfy the Database Management requirement towards the BMI degree. Can you please tell me if any of them do and if so can you tell me each of the exams that would satisfy the requirement?
Thanks for your help,
Chris

Ouch!
So far, the ICCP IT Core Exam is the only IT Certification Exam we know of that can fulfill Database Management for Excelsior?
Has anyone figured out any inexpensive alternatives?

BMW, the ICCP Database Administration exam fulfills EC's concentration requirement at the upper level with 3 credits:
ICCP - Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals
At $250 (plus proctoring fees) it's kind of expensive (compared to other cert exams). I have this approved in writing but I keep postponing it. I hope to take it within the next 2 to 3 months.
Last time I checked, they didn't have a practice exam for Database Administration, but that was quite some time ago (they did have the one for Systems Development though, which I'm also planning to take, unless I go with Penn Foster on that one and find another UL subject to fill the numbers).
Excelsior BSB - MIS concentration (119 credits in the bank)

I've been looking at this, and I think the outline for study material is inefficient, you can reference this thread for more information:
http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums/...light=ICCP
Although I have Database experience, it was years ago and possibly outdated. At least with the IT Core exam it is a broad overview of IT Fundamentals, which is easier to study for.
For $250+ I'll either try to get my credit bank taken care of, or take an online course with a better study outline. More of a "Guarantee"
Thanks for the response! It is inciteful for others who review this thread.
