What is? She isn't exactly clear about that in her comment. I suspect because she really doesn't have any of this worked out. If she intends to enroll full time to get the full Pell, her "out of pocket" expenses will likely be more than $2k. If she's just talking about a few CLEPs, then yeah, that's small.
Quote:I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of getting a student loan when it offers no advantage.
It offers considerable advantage, which I just outlined above. Also, there's no more hassle to it than there is in applying for the credit card you linked to. You fill out the FAFSA and sign a promisory note, the school does all the rest of the work.
Quote:I think CS7's primary concern is the legitimacy of the degree, not what is printed on the diploma.
Did you read through that thread? She went on and on and on about the vanity of it after people explained to her how the legitimacy of the degree is proven through the transcript.
Quote:I don't understand why a forum that is usually supportive has turned so sour towards CS7.
I can't speak for others, but I'd guess it's because her posts seem more and more like dramaramas and not really legitimate requests for help figuring things out. On top of that, she doesn't really seem to be making any effort at all to work toward her degree. I think it's getting on peoples' nerves at this point and I don't blame them.

I learned a long time ago how to spot and cut off people that are overly dramatic and lack focus. They tend to feed on others desire to help them and when that help seems to be slipping away, there is always the mention of a medical issue or a friend that is dying or something else to drag you in.
I feel bad for these people but i realize i have only so much of myself to give and i don't want to help fuel their fire.
cS7 may be one of these people. I don't know since i don't know her but I am not going to be jumping to answer questions unless some effort is made on a specific exam and a real need for specific info arises.

I'm totally done. Shame on you. Health is not something I would lie or joke about and I can only hope that everyone on here is mentally and physically healthy as it's obvious there's complete lack of compassion when it comes to anything, not even my medical situation, but someone who is new to the big 3 college experience and asking questions. I don't need your pity.

If I may, you are incorrect. I am not going to get into a back and forth with you but I would ask that you do some reading up on her posts. Start at number one and see all those who instantly jumped onboard and began answering questions and helping out as always. Then watch how the mind keeps changing all the way through even throwing out ideas of purchasing a mill degree. Oh, I'm sorry, that was a joke. Even now all is being blamed on the threat of cancer (which I take very seriously btw) and medications. Don't get caught up in the drama. You and by nature of the discussion, Linda, have now completed the drama triangle. BTW, the reason Linda chimed in the way she did was that she was one of the persons who tried to help CS7 from the beginning because one of the many degrees she asked about Linda actually holds.
Please let it go. You are attacking the wrong people. You are an obvious white knight which is commendable but this is no damsel in distress. Hope this helps you to understand where everyone's coming from.

I knew you were going to come in here and mention the drama triangle.
I think I've read most of the posts involved here, and I never saw any reason for all of this. Are you upset that she changed her mind a lot? Who doesn't do that? This is a really complicated way to get a degree. How much do we expect people to do in 2 months, especially at the beginning?
In any case, I don't think being disrespectful helps.
I haven't attacked anyone yet...

WB you could not have read all 300+ post in so little time, even if you did read everyone did you also read all of the PM's she sent? Have you read all of the replies she was sent? You could not know how much time and effort so many of us have put into trying to help CS7.
I can not speak for others, but many of the good people on this sight have helped me and MANY other new learners. We have spent our own time and effort to help. We like to help we like to payback. We do not like to be taken advantage of.
We all have been new and confused, but we didn't all expect others to answer ALL our questions. We looked things up for ourselves we searched school websites We did our own homework.
I understand that CS7 may have a medical problem many others have come on here with medical problems, many have come with mental problems and most have come with some kind of family responsibility or financial problem.
We have been helpful we have been patient and we have tried to help. There just comes a time when everyone has had enough. WE are not telling CS7 what to do or how to do it or even where to go. We are just saying it is time to stop talking and get to work.
I just know that if we start using excuses and delaying tactics we will never get done. I got some excellent help and encouragement on this sight. I know if I had come here 5 years ago with 33 CC credits and not just started working I would not have my AA or my BA now.
This is my last post on the subject, I wish all new learners good luck and say do not hesitate to get started you can not finish if you don't start.

I haven't attacked anyone yet... Yes, that's the biggest thing I am guilty of. Changing my mind a LOT. I admit it. Apparently it warrants cruelty from others. I've been nothing but thankful for the help that I have received on here, but the last few days seemed to cross the line as far as being mean went. I'm just not like that. I'm not a jerk and don't dump on others just because my circumstances are less than stellar.

You still haven't given up. I'm so sorry that me asking questions and changing my mind has made you so bitter.
I've said thank you a million times and admitted that I'm all over the place a million times. At first my feelings were hurt. Your catty replies along with some others were pathetic. I feel very sorry for people like you.
You'd swear I came on here and purposely insulted people left and right or something. All of this because I ask a lot of questions....which is what forums are for. Thanks for understanding wb. Yes, it takes a lot of digging and deciding for something like this and I didn't realize that I was the only one that felt that way.

CS7, I totally respect your right to change your mind, I changed mine like 5 times when I first started . I would just set off in a direction. A broad, easily changeable direction. I took a look at several BA's from TESC and made an outline of CLEPs that would satisfy Gen Ed requirements for several of them. Originally my plan was Journalism, it briefly changed to Psychology, then I debated over a few others before settling on CJ (which I haven't reconsidered since!) I think the key may be to keep forward motion.

Thanks pony. I think burbuja sent me a list a while back and perhaps it will make more sense now. If all else fails, I'm completing the LS. I have asked an advisor to tell me if there are equally as "easy/quick" options for other majors, as well, based on my credits.
How are you enjoying Criminal Justice? Do you test out of everything? What do you find so interesting? Thanks for the encouragement.

No, I actually didn't have any interest in testing entirely out, our goals for the degree are pretty different. I tested out of my straight gen eds and that's all. So it's 60/60 testing/classes. I love CJ, I am so glad I chose it I am actually loving the law side of it more than I expected, so I am considering law school, but we will see.
Hope everything clears up for you, I'm sure you can finish a degree no problem.
